Are you writing a fanfiction or participating in one of our contests, and having trouble giving your character that right 'Redwall Feel?' Do you feel their dialogue is bland or 'too normal?' Well, you've come to the right place! Here you can give your character the personality, and limey-ness, they deserve with our Dictionary of Accents.

I've spent several days scouring the internet and compiling this dictionary in the hopes that fanfic writers and future contest participants can use it to help make their character's voices all the more convincing. Many thanks to the Redwall Wars Wiki for having this information to begin with, and I've decided to move a lot of it here so that it's made readily available in more than one place. Here's a quick shameless plug for you all as payment: http://redwallwars.wikia.com/wiki/Redwall_Wars_Wiki

This dictionary is in no way complete, nor will it ever really be- so if you have any suggestions for words I've missed, or improvements you think would help, feel free to send them to me in a PM. With that said, even though this resource exists, do not feel pressured that you have to follow it to a T, or at all, but if you do want to try your hand at writing the most authentic of accents, this is the resource for you.

For ease of access and organization, everything has been spoilered below. Just open whichever dictionary you need and hopefully you'll find what you're looking for, or at least something to get you started-

Woodlanders and Goodbeasts
Molespeech
Moles are tricky little blighters, with deep gruff voices, and dialects that are very hard to understand, let alone write. Even the best of authors can have heaps of trouble trying to write one of these guys and have it be convincing. Some don't even bother trying. This has led moles to sort of be ignored within the world of Redwall fanfiction by a good number of authors- usually only appearing very briefly in unimportant moments to the plot. I call this Token Mole Syndrome, and I personally want to solve it and see some authors actually attempt to write one. So with that said, here's the mole dictionary.

General Mole-isms and Common Phrases

Snout Tugging (action)- Moles often tug their snouts in different scenarios. Mainly as alternatives to shaking paws upon meeting a beast, or to show agreement. It is a polite and courteous gesture.

---- Burr Aye! - Indeed!
---- Burr No! - Certainly not!

Harespeech
Unlike other dialects in the Redwall Universe, hares are less categorized by an accent, but rather how they say and describe things. For that reason, this part is less a dictionary, and more of a general reference.

Wot = Similar to the real-world term what? This is put at the end of sentences of people speaking old British Military and RAF lingo. It equates to "eh?" The hares take this another step to the point that they will put it in  sentences that are not questions, but are making a statement that looks for affirmation from the conversation partner: "I say, Buck, here comes the jolly old shrew fleet, eh (wot)."
Jolly/Old/Bally = All of these are used in roughly the same way as positive descriptive adjectives. E.g: "I say, Buck, here comes the jolly old shrew fleet, wot."
Flippin' = Used as an adjective (usually used to increase the intensity of the sentence). Similar to 'Flamin' '.
Flamin' = Used as an adjective (usually used when aggitated). Similar to 'Flippin' '.
Blinkin' = Used like 'Flippin' '.
Bloomin' = Used like 'Blinkin' '.
Blazin' = See 'Bloomin' '.
Blasted = Used much like 'blazin' ' and such.
Bloody = See 'blasted'.
Ruddy = See 'bloody'.
Gel = Girl
Highlander
The beasts of the Northlands are fierce warriors, surviving in an area of the world that is subject to constant conflict and home to many vermin armies. In a land categorized by rocky terrain and rolling grassy hills, it's no surprise that these beasts- usually but not limited to Squirrels and Hares- carry an accent with very obvious Scottish inspiration.

General Highland-isms and Common Phrases

Bonny = This means a lot of things, but it always means something good; e.g., bonny lass
Lad = Young male, usually having not yet reached adulthood
----Laddie = Young male; also a term of endearment
Lass = Young female, typically not yet an adult
-----Lassie = Young female; as with laddie, it can be a term of endearment
Numptie = Fool; colossal idiot

Vermin-
Hordebeasts and Corsairs-
Vermin are dumb, rude, and uncivilized. As to be expected, they have an accent with slurs and mumbles that best resembles something akin to cockney. (that was a joke, don't hurt meeee.) Because of this, it's best you use vermin accents sparingly and intelligently. A more heavily accented character may appear to embody these traits more and more just by their tone of voice- which may be bad if you're writing some smug, wine sipping, warlord character-, but if used sparingly, your character can appear much more intelligent while still retaining a vermin edge.

Flitchaye
Flitchaye take being a vermin to a new level. While vermin are typically lazy and uncivilized, Flitchaye are simply tribes of savages, often occupying areas of the forest, dressing in rags and covering themselves in warpaint. They capture any trespassers who unfortunately enter their domain with a handy herb that, when burnt, emits a smoke that puts anyone who breathes it asleep. Then they take their victim back to their camp to do with as they please- whether that's torturing and killing, keeping as personal slaves or pets, or even to cook up for a nice meal.

Flitchaye are manic and their dialogue should reflect as such. They share the same dictionary as the vermin above them, but with some added words and phrases below.

Flitchaye-isms and Common Phrases
D' = The. Typically, it is attached to the beginning of the word it is indicating. A sentence by a Flitcheye would be like so: "We d'Flitchaye!" or "I have d'sword!"
