Masika: Buuuut, thanks to Airan PMing our author, we're back! So Mara, are you ready to try again?
Mara: Ya know I am! For alla you who don't remember, I'm a wolf, and I'm Masika's Fanfiction name, and Masika's her Redwall fursona and a european river otter.
Masika: We can't promise the Duelists and Berserker reviews will be restored word-for-word, but we'll still try! For a refresher, I summarize (to the best of my author's ability; she has a tendency over-enthuse, over-analyze, over-complain, over-etc.) -
Mara: I analyze -
Masika: Then we score the characters in each category 1-10, and then we give our favorites!

Masika: Hey look Mara, the ferret in charge graces us with his presence!

Mara: Great t' have ya here, mate! ...Oh bloody great, the damn Scottish accent's back. Foxpen, this your fault for using an accent with Maut. *Crosses arms and glares daggers at Foxpen*
[Canned laughter]
Masika: *Giggles* Well, anyways, here's the Duelists!

Duelists
Name: Elliot
Species: Fox
Gender: Male
Age: 40
[spoiler]Masika: Elliot fights for his life, and his mysterious title, against three hares.
Mara: That's it?
Masika: Mara, it's kinda hard to summarize an app that's entirely a duel.
Mara: True, true. Well, onto the analysis! So Elliot gets into a fight with a hare. He manages to wound the bunny, but his friends cheat and gang up on 'im. Just like hares. It's okay if they do it, 'cause they're "peace-loving woodlanders". But if Elliot did the same? "That bloomin' bally blighter cheated! Just like a vermin!" *Grumbles*
Masika: Mara, the character analysis.
Mara: Right, right. Well, I'd say Elliot's a bit overconfident, using a rapier instead of his longsword to play on level footing. But this foxy's got the skills to back up 'is claims. I bet that bloom' hare - dammit, it's back! - wasn't expecting that pivoting dodge! However, I'm not sensing much drive to the character. If Elliot makes it in, I think he'll go far![/spoiler]

Name: Fiyero
Species: Cat
Gender: Male

[spoiler]Masika: So, Fiyero starts off by singing a tale of slaying "The Bracken Beast of Summer's Glade". This "Bracken Beast" is two badgers-high -
Mara: Pssh. Like that's possible.
Masika: *Raises brow* Mara, you're a wolf. You're taller than a badger.
Mara: ...Touché.
Masika: Anyways, a marten calls Fiyero out on this claim, accusing him of lying. Fiyero kills him.
Mara: Like Elliot, I'm not seeing any real drive in this guy either. Fiyero seems jovial, but it's quickly shown he's a vain braggart. However, he does have skills to back up his claim. However, if someone doubting his claims is enough to set him off, I wonder how he'd do in the story? I know I wouldn't wanna work wit' 'im.[/spoiler]

Name: Maut
Species: Fox (Silver)
Gender: Male
Age: 28
[spoiler]Masika: So, Maut is out practicing and talking to his stoat pal/pet, Veach. D'awww! Aren't mustelids adorable?!
Mara: Masika, focus!
Masika: Right, right. Well, Maut reminisces to old jobs, proving he is a capable merc and spy. Then, a huuuge marten comes, blaming him for the death of his squad. Maut tries to talk 'im down, but the marten doesn't listen and charges. The battle is brief, and Maut and Veach won!
Mara: Nice summary.
Masika: Thank you.
Mara: Like the others, Maut lacks drive, but makes up for it in personality, in my opinion. He clearly loves his stoat pal. D'awww! His cleverness will go far, I'm sure. However, I'm finding it hard to believe he took on 40 beasts and won.
Masika: Mara, remember that episode of Nature, "The Mighty Weasel"? Pound-for-pound, mustelids have the strongest bite in the animal kingdom. And size can make a difference. Foxes are bigger than weasels and rats, and their weapons might be bigger as a result. Plus, foxes are fast, agile, and very smart,
Mara: Still, taking down 40 beasts seems too much for two beasts...[/spoiler]

Masika: Well, my favorite is definitely Maut. Great personality, good skills, and Veach is just plain adorable! He'll go far in the story!
Mara: I have to agree. My vote is definitely on Maut.

I felt the same way at first when I started MO1. In an effort to connect, to participate in the story, I started a review thread since I didn't land in the cast. At first there wasn't much of any response because I didn't know anyone and they didn't know me. Then, as the contest rolled on, people started asking questions, chipping in, and wondering when reviews would or wouldn't go up.

The point is: be yourself, have fun, and know that people are reading and appreciating your input even if it's quiet at first.

Berserkers
Name: Chitterfang the Wrigglekin
Species: Bat (common noctule)
Gender: Female
Age: 23
[spoiler]Masika: An elderly vole is running from a gang of bandits. He digs up some bugs and uses them to summon the Wrigglekin. Chitterfang doesn't even realize there are bandits at first (People do know bats aren't literally blind right? They just lack night vision. Their eyesight's as good as a human's.). She tries to get Brennan to run, but he instead gives her the bugs. The bugs trigger memories and turn her into a berserker. Unfortunately, Brennan is killed.
Mara: Chitterfang is definitely funny. The bug-memory thing is cool, creepy, and a little gross all at the same time. I do wish we had gotten to see the battle though. Although, for the people who love staying a little truer to BJ's canon, where's the repeating of every last word, last word, last word?[/spoiler]

Name: Elias Heatherpaw
Species: Hare
Gender: Male
Age: 45
[spoiler]Masika: Uh-oh. It's a hare. Mara, think you can be nice for this one?
Mara: *Grumbles unintelligibly* I guess so.
Masika: Elias wishes to avenge his fallen mate. He leads his squad, against a Badgerlord's orders, to the vermin. However, they are ambushed, and Elias loses his squad. However, he avenges his mate.
Mara: ......Damn, that is just sad. Where are the tissues?
Masika: *Hands Mara a box of Kleenax*
Mara: Th-thanks. *Dabs eyes* W-well, Elias wants vengeance. However, he's too focused on revenge to notice an ambush, and pays with his squad. I-I don't think he can be a member of the L-Long Patrol after this. *Sobs a little*
Masika: *Pats Mara on the back*[/spoiler]

Name: Ilka
Species: Wildcat
Gender: Female
Age: 36
[spoiler]Masika: The opening line implies Ilka regularly suffers from Bloodwrath. She dumps the heads of her kills before Brother Wulter, the middle-mouse. Wulter says there's two missing, but Ilka argues that she only kills beasts, not find 'em. Wulter refuses to pay her, despite her threats (tough little mouse). Ilka then makes him a deal: "Be my factor. Keep that sack of gold for yourself or distribute it to the poor or whatever fool thing you wish. Consider it a sign-on bonus."
Mara: Ilka seems rather...dangerous...and amoral. I definitely would not wanna work with her. She's as likely to kill her allies as well as her enemies.[/spoiler]

Hey Masika! Nice to have more reviews, and welcome to Survivor! Your characters' podcast-like banter is a fun variation on the typical review, and I'm thoroughly enjoying it! Just wanted to engage with some of the comments (I still haven't read all of the apps - doing that tonight, but I've read half, including these six).

Regarding Fiyero - technically the app did not say he killed the pine marten, and also I think you missed that the marten attacked him for calling him a liar, not the other way around. Fiyero actually seemed put out that the party was over and he'd have to stop singing now.

Regarding Maut - I agree with you mostly, except I think the stoat sidekick is creepy! XD

Regarding Chitterfang - I thought the same thing about her being blind, but then I also thought maybe she's just super distracted and unfocused? I mean she did just crash land.

Regarding Elias - maybe I misread it, but I concluded that he killed his own squad as well as the vermin - just as Chitterfang killed her friend in her berserker rage. I could be wrong though.

Regarding Ilka - I think that she is actually the only one who didn't kill her ally and also is looking for moral guidance (as opposed to Elias). So yes, amoral at the moment, but the app seems to promise a change in her outlook - that she wants to be a better beast.

Chitterfang did actually try to get her vole friend to run (still don't know why he didn't) but ended up killing him. She seems to have some moral guides in spite of her crazy insect berserker ability. Elias seems regretful about the loss of his squad, but moves on pretty quickly to feeling justified. So if immorality is a factor in your decision-making, Elias seems the least moved by his own uncontrolled actions. That said, maybe morality of character is not the best factor to judge by at this point. There is an entire story ahead, after all. If being an immoral jerk were the leading decision-making factor for MO3 apps, Chak the slave driver would NEVER have made it in, ha ha! Then we would never have been able to walk with him through his moral growth as a character, which spanned the entire contest. Robert was good from the start, but if all the characters had been Robs, I don't think there would have been much of a story there, tbh.

Just some thoughts, since I know you're not on Discord atm to toss these ideas back and forth.

[spoiler]Masika: Elsabeth is figuring out what to do with everything besides the extra money that comes with creating invisible soldiers when she's confronted by her superior. She tries to make a bargain, but the rat ain't biting and says that tomorrow, she'll be shipped far up north.
Mara: Well, at least we know a little about how she might meet Mekai. The cat internally admits she's not a fighter. While a planner's a good thing to have on the team, I think she'd be voted off rather quickly for not directly contributing to the action. But I could be wrong.[/spoiler]

Name: Lucan
Species: Mouse
Gender: Male
Age: 16
[spoiler]Masika: A trio of rats is awoken by the ghost of Martin claiming he'll kill them. The rats try to fight, but the ghost is unfazed, and one even ends up wounded. The rats run, and it's then revealed the "ghost" is just a scarecrow and a wooden sword that glow due to phosphorus mushrooms.
Mara: I gotta say right now, I don't really like Lucan. For all we know about these rats, they coulda just been simply travellin' to visit friends and family, and nether bothered anybeast. This is why I don't like Bragoon and Sarobando. They attack, harass, steal from, and inadvertently kill a beast without remorse just cause they're vermin, then force a jerbil-rat to be their prisoner on the grounds that the name contains the word "rat". Lucan is likewise a self-centered little racist.[/spoiler]

Name: Merrill
Species: Hedgehog
Gender: Female
Age: 24
[spoiler]Masika: A hedgehog comes to buy pitons and rope, claiming her spirits can turn iron to gold.
Mara: Didn't ancient alchemists claim the same thing?
Masika: They claimed alchemy could turn lead into gold, but close enough. Anyways, a village alderbeast goes up to test her claims. He doesn't buy the gig, and kicks Merrill, causing her to attack and nearly kill him.
Mara: ......I really don't have much to say. First, why does she bind her quills? Second, she's lesbian? That's rather unheard of in Redwall. But ultimately, I just don't like her, mainly for trying to bring some form of magic to Redwall. I'm sorry, but if I wanted magic, I'd go to Harry Potter.[/spoiler]

Mara: I'm much more an action-oriented girl, but I do like good strategy. Elsabeth is a great choice, but I would love to see a racist like Lucan have to work with vermin, have him learn how the world really works.

Masika: Well, that...um...I think it's a black...weasel?
Mara: I think it's a ferret.
Masika: Well, whatever it is, he called Veach creepy! How dare he! Mustelids are the some of the cutest things Vulpuz ever put on this earth!
Mara: Let's just get reviewing, shall we? We've got two more categories 'fore we're done for the night.

Seafarers
Name: Bise
Species: Rook
Gender: Female

[spoiler]Masika: A rook returns to ship. A ship she was sold to. She details the peninsula she scouted to the captain, then heads up to her bunk in the crow's-nest.
Mara: Like Merrill, there ain't really much to say here. She's willing to work off her identured servitude, but that doesn't mean she has to like it. But I like her.[/spoiler]

Name: Dawl Dredgemast
Species: Sea Otter
Gender: Male
Age: 18
[spoiler]Masika: Dawl has inherited the family ship. He tries to scrape enough money for he and his sister to get by while they try to find their parents. However, he doesn't have it in him to kill beasts, making it harder to get more lucrative work.
Mara: Well, like the last two, not much to say here. A beast who's unwilling to kill is sweet, but he'll be killed off rather quickly. Just sayin'.[/spoiler]

Name: Novak
Species: Pine Marten
Gender: Male
Age: 42
[spoiler]Masika: Now here's something fun: a seal-hunter!
Mara: How can you call slaughtering seals fun?!?! Isn't our author an animal welfarist?!
Masika: Trust me Mara, I meant fun as in "rarely seen". Plus Novak's repulsion when he learns he's been killing sapient beasts is wonderful. People shouldn't kill seals unless for survival purposes.
Mara: Or any other animal for that matter. But onto the analysis. Novak... Well, actually Masika, I think we more-or-less already did that. I find Novak's horror to learn that the sealions are sapient is wonderful. I hated this character up until that point. But now, he'll swear off that line of work and look for redemption, hopefully.[/spoiler]

Not to hate on Veach but a mute mustelid who doesn't seem to be able to talk and who's first instinct is to bite rather than draw a sword? Pretty creepy :P

Mara: But Redwall's a world of sapient beasts. But, I agree, he's straight up cute. But enough of that. C'mon, last category before bed!

Hunters
Name: Ashtad
Species: Adder
Gender: Male
Age: 36
[spoiler]Masika: A dormouse is thrown to an adder. Ashtad takes him into the lair, but doesn't kill him as he's still digesting. (Weird. I thought snakes rarely pass up on a meal. Also, the author loses points for not knowing a rat would only take a week for an adder to digest, not a month.) The dormouse is surprised to learn the snake is intelligent. He claims he was framed, and Ashtad says to bring proof.
Mara: What can I say? Well, first off, how does Ashtad light lanterns and read books when he has no arms? But a reptile that isn't portrayed as a mindless killer. Or sadistic. Definitely nice change of pace. Snakes need more love.[/spoiler]

Name: Kew-Kew
Species: Wearet
Gender: Male
Age: 25
[spoiler]Masika: A mouse is running for her life and trips. She then meets Kew-Kew the wearet. Oh, I'm sorry, the eagle. Kew-Kew talks a little, then strings up the poor mouse as bait! He wishes to catch and eat the eagle who killed his mother.
Mara: This beast is just so ugly, and simple-minded, yet a devious trapper. I do have wonder how Mekai could recruit an insane beast. I know I wouldn't.[/spoiler]

Name: "Old One"
Species: Wolverine
Gender: Male
Age: Old
[spoiler]Masika: And finally, Old One! Old One has killed a rat, although he doesn't know what it is (How is that possible? Don't rats canonically exist in The Land of Ice and Snow?). He sings a song, probably asking the gods to accept the creature's soul to Dark Forest, and then prepares to eat.
Mara: Old One is deaf. He's also spiritual. And he's so old, he probably wouldn't last long in the story. However, I like him.[/spoiler]

Masika: Right. Well, Priideep is up in a tree, talking to her assistant Sedgwick, about fighting snakes and ducks... Can I just say now ducks adorable?
Mara: Masika, you think hyenas are adorable.
Masika: Uh! So do you! We're both our author, remember?
Mara: *Smacks upside head* Hey, you know our author hates fourth wall breakage and medium awareness!! Back to the summary!
Masika: *Rubbing head* I'll get you back for that... Anyways, a fox comes up the river to take a drink, but quickly spits the water back out in disgust. The frogs decide to check the water and find that it has been polluted with silt, killing the tadpoles.
Mara: Wow, I never thought a tadpole's death could make me sad. Not that I have anything against frogs. Masika, the tissues, please?
Masika: *Hands Kleenax to Mara*
Mara: Thanks. Well, while Priideep is stated to be clever, and is shown to have decent judgement, I'm not seeing much real reason she'd join Mekai. I mean, they can't kick her out for something she has no control over, right? And even if they did, would fighting the "sun-eaters" (Can we just call them bears? 'Cause it's obvious that's what they are.) really earn her redemption in the tribe's eyes?[/spoiler]

Mara: I have nothing against hares themselves! It's just that hares in the Redwallverse tend t' be highfalutin, self-righteous, racists.
Masika: Well, anyways. Shahin is showing off his new buckler, which he took off a corpse - ewww - to his childhood friend, Etienne Hart. They're having an argument over this, and just as Eti decides to cover for him, when they are attacked! The two run and lose Sergeant Amira Clade, and Shahin asks Eti to elope with him, promising he'll better his ways. Eti says yes.
Mara: Awww! Well, there's not really much to say here. I'm not seeing much skills that'll help fight off bears. But a romantic sub-plot or two never hurts![/spoiler]

Name: Sheercrest

Age: Middle Aged
[spoiler]Masika: And now, Sheercrest the merlin! Mara, what's a merlin?
Mara: *Googles it* Some kind of falcon.
Masika: *Looks at pictures* Wow, talk about beautiful! Well, anyways, Sheercrest is hunting for a mouse. But not to eat! No, she wishes to protect this mouse, who blames her for eating his parents. It's not 100% clear if she did, but it's heavily implied, and she wishes to atone. Bray reluctantly mounts her, and they take off.
Mara: Well, not much to say here. A predator who'll probably be going vegan, an angry mouse she wishes to atone to... I dunno, the applicants in this category really don't seem to have much reason to join Mekai, do they? But I do like Sheercrest's personality, and there's an...interesting dynamic between her and Bray.[/spoiler]

[spoiler]Masika: So, we start off with somebeast named Cordy about to be executed for abandoning his post in a time of need.
Mara: Hmm, why does this remind of Timon & Pumbaa's "Once Upon a Timon"?
Masika: ......Never bring up that horrible show again. And the only thing this has in common with that is someone being punished after they abandoned their post. But anyways, the executioner misses, twice, and Flauros declares that it's Fate saying it's not Cordy's time to die. But the executioner recognizes Flauros and bets he can hit Cordy. Unfortunately for poor Cordy, Flauros doesn't miss.
Mara: ......I really got nothin' to say. Really.[/spoiler]

Name: Siler
Species: Wood Mouse
Gender: Male
Age: 29
[spoiler]Masika: Now for Siler. Siler kills his old stoat pal, Falfred, after sleeping with Falfred's mate, Eunice, and demands more after killing Falfred in cold blood...over things that don't sound like they'd warrant death.
Mara: Can we give this little #### a 0? I hate him, and if he makes it into the story, I hope those bears eat 'im.[/spoiler]

Name: Unga Underbite
Species: Shrew
Gender: Female
Age: 29
[spoiler]Masika: And now for Unga. Unga is betrayed by now-former partner, a stoat by the name of Snagwort Slickpaw! Even as he robs her, she gives him advice. As he walks away with her slingstones and money, not thinking to take her real weapons, she contemplates how she coulda prevented this, and how maybe she'll hunt him down later.
Mara: This one's easy. Unga's a mentor. I think she'd do well in the story.[/spoiler]

[spoiler]Masika: Antoina St. Myra! Fighting against injustice against arranged marriages and nunneries. Mara, what're nunneries?
Mara: *Googles* "A building or group of buildings in which nuns live as a religious community; a convent."
Masika: I'm not sure what you just said. Well, basically, Antoina fights and kills Briar Haversham for punishing his daughter for refusing to marry someone who she hasn't met and/or doesn't love.
Mara: While her cause is a good one, I think she may have went a bit too far. If she gets in the story, I want Siler in it too so she'll kill 'im.[/spoiler]

Name: Kiri
Species: Sparrow
Gender: Female
Age: 22
[spoiler]Masika: A sparrow is the leader of a band of brigands. They're highway robbers. That is all.
Mara: You could make this any vermin species, and the story be'd the same. Also, whydoesn't Kiri's words occasionally runtogether like BJ's canon?[/spoiler]

Age: 30s
[spoiler]Masika: A job goes wrong, and Smooths tries to get his ferret friend Muli to town for healing. Unfortunately, Muli doesn't make it.
Mara: Man, it's hard to hate Smooths. No wait, it's impossible to hate Smooths! Even if we never saw the fight, this app was wonderful![/spoiler]

Name: Brother Hawthorn
Species: Mouse

[spoiler]Masika: A hedgehog comes to Brother Hawthorn for healing. Just as Brother Hawthorn's finished, he gets a letter from a scared squirrel, and kills poor Bursoot.
Mara: Like Flauros, I have nothing to say. I don't think Hawthorn will make it long in the story.[/spoiler]

Name: Robin Merriweather

[spoiler]Masika: A vixen prepares her reactions for when her fiancé "drops dead". She flirts with him to keep him from noticing her poisoning his wine. He gives a speech, but he wants her to drink from his cup, despite her protests. She prepares to stab him, when a slave tries to kill 'im instead! In a reflex action, she kills the mousie!
Mara: All I can say is: This was a fun story! I'd love to see her in the story! Also, why do I feel like she and Maut would make a good couple?[/spoiler]

Name: Siobhan, Codename: The Mantis
Species: Fox

He gives him smelling salts (in the wrong way. Also, according to some other reviewer, smelling salts are made of amonia, which is bad for birdies...). Seamus decides to get some peace and quiet by asking him to get some "magic books".

[spoiler]Masika: ...Honestly, this one didn't make much sense to me. At first it seems the smaller mustelids are reviering him, then they attack, and he kills them. Then the talk with Grandmother. Something about the Burden and the Chosen? All I know is, he doesn't want this job anymore.
Mara: I was just left confused, and feel Zandir would bring unnecessary sub-plots to the story.[/spoiler]
