Okay, hedgehog is completely confused.  (What do you mean I'm always that way?)  Want to explain how this "karma" scoring system works?

It means I'm probably going to be a slug in my next life. But that's okay, because slugs are adorable.

On proboards (is this proboards? I can't tell) it's this little bonus function where you can give someone karma if you agreed with their post or thought it was well-written/otherwise awesome, or take away a karma point if you didn't like the post. If you frequent Youtube at all, think the little thumbs-up/thumbs-down system for comments, it's basically just that. On other forums I've been on there is a similar "reputation" function, though usually it's weighted or closely monitored or just completely disabled to prevent abuse.

But I'm pretty sure someone disabled it shortly after these forums were opened or something. Unless I'm blind and I can't see the little button

Yeah, it's just a silly little bonus thing. There's no real meaning to it other than I felt like enabling it to see what it did. And this is Simple Machines, not proboards.

I'm thinking I might change the name to something other than karma, but I have no clue what. :P

Methinks I may have figured it out on my own.  Note that everyone else has two options under their name, "applaud" and "smite."  Am thinking the first will add to that person's karma and the other will demote.  Not going to try it on anyone, but the old hedgehog is expecting to begin sucking sewer water real soon.

Really? I shouldn't think so. People may not like getting bad reviews, but you are going through lots of trouble for our edification. I think they realize that and respect it.
