Bad Karma

In case you missed it or you haven't been following Ashira's thread, the karma feature has been a growing problem. It's supposed to be just a silly little frivolous thing, but some people are misusing it and it is becoming more and more of a bother. Some people seem to just be using it as a way to attack someone anonymously, and it's been more trouble than it's worth.

For now, I've disabled the smite option, so you can now only applaud peoples' posts. However, I'm thinking I may disable it altogether, especially if it continues to be a problem.

Revel

Thankee, miz Tarry! I hope this makes our reviewers a little braver now.  ;D
And I hope that you know that nature is so
This same rain that draws you near me
Falls on rivers and land, and forests and sand,
Makes the beautiful world that you'll see in the morning

To all reviewers, past and present, thank you! I don't always find something to say in reply to each reviewer but I do my best to read them and will take their advice as best I can. You are appreciated!

As I said in the other thread, a good first step, but only a half measure.  Best it be removed in full, smite, applaud, and points.

To be honest, it has sent a message loud and clear to me.  When the contestant(s) I am aiding are eliminated or when Redventure ends, whichever comes first, I'm gone.  To paraphrase the closing of the television series "Survivor,"  the membership has spoken, and my torch is naught but smoke.

I dunno, Cairn. Somehow, your decision to leave strikes me as being slightly petty. I realize that there are people who have been cruel or unfair towards you in this contest or others, but from what I have seen, a far greater volume of people support you, value your opinion, and would most certainly prefer for you to stay. Choosing to all but abandon this contest over something as insignificant as karma, or a deragatory e-mail or two, seems a little bit oversensitive, especially since so many of us on this forum that would support and defend you. I respect and accept your decision, but I can't say I particularly support your reasoning.

That was one reason why I found it hard.  No matter how worded, it comes across as petty.  So I'll call it an accumulation of such things in the last four survivor contests where I offered comments, the banning from ROC:S3 before it even began, and all my fan e-mail as both a contestant and reviewer.

Yes, the karma was an irritent.  From those bragging to finding myself more often in the negative.  To me, the abuse warrants its removal, but that is not the prevailing opinion.

I will say I have enjoyed writing my reviews on the posts from the contenstant(s) that requested them.  Some honest give and take on both sides.

I thought about it last night, and I don't see any reason to keep the karma option open right now. I had hoped it wouldn't become a serious issue, but it's sort of a status thing now and we don't need people thinking they're less valued here because they have lower karma.

If there's ever an RV6, I may give the karma option another go if there's a big enough desire for it. Until then, it stays off, and we stick to writing, reviewing, and not killing each other in the process. Okay? :P

And Cairn, I hope you don't give up on survivor contests. I've had both really good and really bad experiences with them, but overall I love being a part of them. You've got to take the bad with the good, I think.

Without QB-2, I never would have discovered my creative side.  In spite of the organized campaign to get me removed, I overcame those odds and it pushed me into finishing my fan fiction series.  That's a good high I'll not forget.  If nothing else, it gave me a permanent online personna and ID wherever I travel.

I thought I got enough of the bad in that one, but then learning from the Terrouge's departing Admin the depths of the QB-5 contestant's hatred, (his word) regarding my reviews, it made me go the private route here.

I'll not say which contestant(s) I am communicating with as I wouldn't doubt there might be a backlash against their character(s).

And on a separate note, thank you for removing the scoring system.

Well, some of us have been vocal in our begging of your reviews, Cairn. ^.-

I take the good with the bad. If I get votes for casting my lot in with certain folks, then so be it.
