Do you Believe in Writing After Death?

Actually, the more I think about it, the more I'm dissatisfied with having "dead" characters still be able to write in the story proper, because... IMO that's not really much of a contest still. It would be nice for them to still get a chance to improve and win awards, but at the same time I feel like it cheapens the experience somewhat.

As the audience and potential future contestants, what do you guys think? This will be effecting you more than anything, so... yeah.

It depends on how it's done. In the Emperor's Decree 2, Locke still wrote a post in the week following his death, but it concerned his character very little and was more of a backstory post trying to tie together the two opposing kingdoms of the story through a series of letters. This was fine in my opinion, but writing as the character after they've died or been written out would disrupt the flow and general purpose of survivor contests. But, I don't see any reason why the writer of a dead character can't write a future post in the antagonist's point of view or something like that. I'm going to say no for now, but it really depends simply on how it's done, if they write as a character who's supposed to be written out, it needs to be for a good reason.

Death is death. Special circumstances may appeal.

Special circumstances!!! There's been posts in the past contests that have existed beyond a player's run. Dorog in ROCS:3, for instance, as voted off while he was away on vacation, so I petitioned Roxie for him to have one last post since he never got to write his own death. Locke was another one, apparently to help build setting and story, and I know Mr. Highwing helped write a few after his rat character was voted off in QBV (although that was a character death and not an author elimination style contest).

If you decide to allow authors to write past their run, I say make the contest about characters, not authors. A character can be eliminated, but an author can not, and they can choose to continue writing the story if they so desire. But they can't write their character any more!!!

I do like the idea of special awards. Those are always nice to have, but maybe have admin awards and audience awards, just so one person isn't amassing all of them.
And then he DIED!!!

Special circumstances ~= 1 per contest.

OR we could have a parallel roleplay that the audience hosts and the eliminated writers join!!
And then he DIED!!!

Did they do that in that one? I remember there was something in RV5, I think... Maybe it was 4.
And then he DIED!!!

Opal

4. Problem with those is that they're not usually very active. I think RV4's got like, one or two posts?

What if we had some sort of writing awards for THOSE too? Obviously they wouldn't carry the weight of winning a contest, but still. Oooh...
