The Merchant category kind of implied 'any other person who would have a reason to go to Carrigul,' in my opinion. Pollux seems to me to be a spy or an assassin. Why is nobody mentioning this letter that is weighing so heavily in its pocket? That seems to be the main mystery of his character, and what makes him intriguing to me. It's obvious that he has some task that needs to be fulfilled, which, if he gets in, would almost certainly mean he'd go to Carrigul to fit into the plot.

The Prologue did say there'd be merchant wagons etc -- well, what's there to stop Pollux from pretending to be a merchant to disguise his true purpose? It seems like a plausible disguise for a spy, to me.

Of course, it's fine to place him fifth for other reasons, but I think it's unfair that a number of people are griping on him for this. At the end of the day, we're voting for the characters who would make the most interesting story, not for who best fits into the rather loosely defined categoreis.

I think in my review for Pollux I was originally going to make a comment about his letter and the mystery behind it, but I had simply forgotten to. That idea does sound intriguing, but I just don't know, if based on how his character is described, if that's actually the case. Maybe so, but I don't know. After thinking about it though, I really do think that Pollux is a lot better character than I originally perceived him as, and I think I should give him more credit than I have been. He obviously has some history and mystery, what with his letter and dead brother as well as the hints to his previous involvement with some form of bloodshed, and the overall character, while not anything new, is at least done in a way I haven't seen it before. He is still a little passive in my opinion, but nothing worth my number 5, I believe.

EDIT: I've moved Pollux to my 4th for now, though the more I think about him, the more likely he is to maybe move at least to my 3rd by the end of the week. I still don't like him as much as Alder or Zevka, but I think he'd be a good character for the contest if he makes it in, and could develop quite nicely.
