Hiatus Contest- Nest Interludes

With the recent hiatus for the contest I've decided that in order to maintain interest from our readership, I will be running one or two smaller contests in the meantime. Here is the first-

Nest Interludes

Sometimes in the past, the writers in the Survivor scene have decided to break from their characters' points of views and instead write a chapter from the perspective of someone completely different- such as an NPC living within the city the story takes place in. Usually these do not serve the plot in any way, but rather give readers a glimpse into other parts of the world from perspectives that might not normally be heard. We call these 'Interludes.'

The contest is fairly simple. I would like you to write an Interlude from the perspective of a villager living within Nest, specifically detailing their origins, the change in their life that brought them to Nest, and how they've adjusted to their new home. Now, I'm not looking for just any character however. There are specific qualities I'm seeking-

Most villagers in Nest have hailed from tragic circumstances but have found their way to this hidden village in some way or other. Here they've found a community that keeps them safe and allows them to live in relative happiness, and forget what originally brought them there I want a character who hails from something tragic, but has now found happiness.

The winning entry will become an official chapter within the story, and will be placed within the narrative during a lull period, such as when we are counting votes and such. The NPC featured will also become canon, so expect cameos.

RULES

• Entries should be between 1500-2500 words. No more, no less please. I might have to read a lot.
   
• You may make only one submission.

• Your character should be 100% original and created for this contest. Please do not write a character from another work, or one that you applied to MO5 with. As much as I would love to read more about some of these characters, I would prefer everyone who applies to start on the same playing field.   

• Please do your best to be vague about the continuity in your submission. Basically what I mean, is try not to reference specific events within the storyline- such as Mekai's departure from Nest- as it might make it harder for me to more easily slip it into the story.   

• The winning entry will be decided based on the overall quality of the work. So, please make sure to revise your work and correct it for grammatical errors, to have the proper forum coding (Please Private Message me if you don't know what that means), and to have a character worth following, just as you would for an application.

• Anonymity will be in play, solely because I do not want the Interludes spoiled before I choose the winning entry.

• MO5 contestants should not apply, as they are free to make as many NPCs and Interludes as they wish already, so this contest will only be open to audience members who did not make the cut. That being said, if you're a contestant, feel free to comment below your interest in applying if you wish to throw people off your trail.

• All interested applicants will receive a document that details some of the basic rules of Nest, as well as some of the roles within it, and how they all function. While there will not be spoilers within this document, I would appreciate you not sharing it with others. Please have patience with me in getting this document to you. I will likely start sending them tomorrow as of this posting.

• Please give your chapter a title in a similar vein as how the contestants have done.

I couldn't compete in MOV but would love to leave my mark. I also have a question. Could I do a pair of characters? I have these two in one document sitting around. If not, I'll find some way to lose the other.

Quick question: can it include foreign animals, like hamsters? There was one in Triss.

Of course! I should have clarified that. Your chapter can certainly follow a group as well. Whether that means it follows a family, or a pair of lovers, or something similar, all of that would be fine.

You're free to join too, Masika. Thanks for the interest. And yes, a hamster would be great, and encouraged! I'll give you some more info once I get home from work tonight and am able to get out the info documents to everyone.

I must admit that one of the main reasons I want to apply is because I want to know how Nest works >.> <.<

That said I'm a big fan of the idea and will be applying for sure!

I'm assssssssuming that, this being a chapter for the story and all, it has to follow the rules of the main posts. So for example no first person narration because that's not allowed within the story, right?
