I may know the answers,
Though one question I still hear.
What twist in fate has brought us
To roads that run so near?
Distant worlds together.
Miracles from realms beyond.
The life-light burns inside me
To sing with you this song.

Round Two and Final.

Name: Bahto

Prediction: Beastmaster resisting the urge to devour those juicy peccaries. She does not always succeed, which led to her switching to managing scorpions instead.

Prediction: Has a lance and laughs a lot. So edgy he makes Scorpio seem like a Teletubby.

Name: Saoirse the Unbound
Species: White Wolf

Name: Timbones Oldburrow
Species: Canadian Lynx
Category: Bone Rattler
Prediction: Another one of those? Fine... There was a lynx that lived in a hole in the ground. He went east, got a magical artifact and handed it to his second cousin once removed. Now he has nothing to do but to shake bones. Yay him.

Name: Wenona
Species: Antelope Squirrel
Category: Interpreter
Prediction: Looks at the sky for a living... and for fun too. On one hand, the land needs rain rather quickly, but on the other, she bet her entire life savings there isn't going to be any precipitation for seasons... decisions, decisions...
I may know the answers,
Though one question I still hear.
What twist in fate has brought us
To roads that run so near?
Distant worlds together.
Miracles from realms beyond.
The life-light burns inside me
To sing with you this song.

#2
Here we go! My batch of deceptively subjective Warpath application reviews. Please have a nice read.

Category: Knight
Name: Marunae
Species: Tundra Hare
Age: 29
Summary: Marunae meets Haeiron, an Esperanto-speaking fox from the south. They form a relationship that's kinda romantic and friendly at the same time. Sixteen seasons pass and she has to tell him to leave because her clan/family/army wants him dead... or worse.
One thing I didn't like:
The app got confusing at times. I'm not sure if it's because of the massive timeskip or otherwise, but there are places where I had to pause and think about how some part of the app worked. Most of it came from the duo understanding each other in the second part of the app, where Haeiron and Marunae understand each other (I think). The fact that there were virtually no dialogue tags didn't really help.
Two things I liked:
Esperanto. It is a language that should see more appearances in fiction. The last time I checked it was seen in the main theme of Final Fantasy XI (2002). It's one of the first conlangs, and I'm pretty excited that it's the Green Forest's common tongue.
Marunae and Haeiron's relationship. I loved all of it, the parts you decided to show us (their first encounter, pronouncing each other's names wrong consistently and endearingly, her asking him to leave) and the parts you didn't. A brief description of what they did when they were younger worked wonders, as well as the fact that Marunae came back for him after sixteen seasons. Those spoke volumes.

Category: Ice Walker
Name: Emmathea Pointe
Species: Muskrat
Age: 19
Summary: Emmathea has trapped a great horned beast (probably a moose) and tries to kill it, but it escapes. The two fight for a while before Emmathea kills it after a lot of close shaves and even more flashbacks. She drags its body back to her home.
One thing I didn't like:
We didn't have a lot of dialogue in the app. All we had is an action sequence and two monologues, and only one of them is spoken by Emmathea. Thus, we have no indication of how she interacts with other (sapient) creatures.
Two things I liked:
The whole fight. I was on the edge of my seat watching everything happen, and Emmathea's author actually managed to create a whole lot of suspense even though we know she survives (no ghost apps) through the app. They managed to create an incredibly smooth flow of action, which also allowed the reader to fully grasp what Emmathea's thinking at the moment.
All glimpses we get of Emmathea's backstory. We have a more-than-slightly elitist grandmother, which probably explains her high expectations for herself... and perhaps everybeast else. Seeing her get that surge of confidence at the end was golden.

Category: Ice Walker
Name: Bahto
Species: White Wolf
Age: Adult
Summary: Bahto lines up his first belief - strength alone rules the Whitelands. The youngest of his pack manages to slay a Longtusk, causing a scuffle to break out between all four members. Bahto calls off the fight and shares the prey between the quartet - strength rules the Whitelands, but love saves it.
One thing I didn't like:
We don't see Bahto doing the Ice Walking in his app. His author put more time into writing about the squabbling between his packmates than depicting what he can do when he's in action. What happens when Bahto is not with his pack could be debated, and the possibility of that is quite likely in the contest.
Two things I liked:
The Lunar Trial. It's a neat bit of worldbuilding, and neatly explains the fact that strength rules the cold and savage north. The fights we get to see are also quite exciting to experience - this is actually the first time I got to read wolves fighting.
Pack dynamics. Bahto is clearly the leader of the group, while Kaia and Ferro and Kipper (especially Kipper) are relegated to subordinate roles. However, one would be mistaken if Bahto is going to abuse his power - he loves his pack more than his pride. If they stay together in the contest proper us readers are going to enjoy how they interact with each other, their allies under Kastor and their future enemies.

Category: Beast Master
Name: Wilder Wapaw
Species: Cactus Mouse
Age: Early Twenties
Summary: Wilder Wapaw attempts to introduce his pal Kwetzacoatel to some senior Beast Masters, but the alligator is proving to be more than slightly reluctant. He was expecting to be treated like a deity, not a pet, but Wapaw manages to calm him down. They appear in the end, shocking at least a few higher-ups.
One thing I didn't like:
Wapaw's app is rather dependent on Kwetzacoatel. While the interactions between the two are a joy to read, the app effectively treats the two as one. One has to wonder how long their author could keep the two together and functioning, and what happens when that is no longer a possibility.
Two things I liked:
Character dynamics. While Wapaw is dependent on Kwetzacoatel as I mentioned above, the inverse is also true. The relationship between those two beasts is simply not one-sided and is subject to much interpretation.
The sheer potential. Wilder and his pet/god's relationship is founded on lies and deception, but it's clear that there's more to it than first seen. While at first glance the tone they take towards each other may have been quite jarring, it would be fun to see Wapaw's and Kwetzacoatel's attitude and relationship change as the story progresses, and there's a lot of development room for them if they happen to get in.

Category: Beast Master
Name: Shoklok
Species: Alligator Snapping Turtle
Age: 38
Summary: Shoklok is talking to his Twigs. After a little bit of interlinguistic kerfuffle, his charges are introduced to a wildcat kit, Bae. The turtle narrates how he came to meet Bae before marking him with his claw and taking him to get food and water.
One thing I didn't like:
Slight deviance from the category description. Beast Masters were supposed to tame feral beasts, not take care of sapient ones. However, the fact that this application has been approved may raise questions about sentience in this world. More can be done with this even though nothing is said about it in the application.
Two things I liked:
Playing with perspective. There are many different interpretations to be taken from the application. Is Shoklok a teacher or a cult leader? A gentle parent or an affable abuser? There are a lot of directions Shoklok's story can progress towards.
Shoklok's relationship with the Twigs. As seen in the above point, the relationship between them is complicated, for lack of a better term. Do they love him as a parent, stay with him because he protects them well, or do they secretly hate him and all he stands for? It could also be a sort of blind, empty obedience borne out of duty. There would be an abundance of options, but that would be a mystery to be solved later.

Category: Beast Master
Name: Fernando
Species: Nine-Banded Armadillo
Age: 19
Summary: Fernando, a Class 3 Beast Master arrives at Lost Butte, seeking a promotion to Class 4. Quickly seeking out Maestro Sanchez, the Guildmaster denies him what he asks for, until he controls a nearby bison with his chanting. Sanchez reconsiders.
One thing I didn't like:
Around a third of the app is used to introduce Lost Butte. While worldbuilding is an integral part to this contest, these words could be spent on revealing more about Fernando. Moreover, we might never stay in Lost Butte for long, rendering the introduction even more costly.
Two things I liked:
Fernando's motivation. He knows he is limited by his location and journeys across the land to remedy that. As much as I love inner conflict, Fernando is a beast primarily driven by conflict with the environment around him, which is honestly refreshing.
The worldbuilding. The city of Lost Butte is a very much developed locale, and the levelling system of Beast Masters could be a source of conflict later in the future. Fernando's author could easily develop this further.

Category: Beast Master
Name: Timbones Oldburrow
Species: Antelope Squirrel
Age: 18
Summary: Timbones meets up with his aunt Olna after tending to his beetles. His family is preparing to leave on a journey North, but she informs him that he will be leaving alone. She hands him a book detailing the old family techniques before she comforts him and gives him much-needed confidence.
One thing I didn't like:
Timbones seems to fit the Kid Hero trope a bit too closely. He isn't bland, but there's a chance he might be if his author plays their cards poorly.
Two things I liked:
Timbones's relationship with Aunty Olna. They are a very sweet pair, with her teaching him the ways of Beast Mastery and him taking care of her the way only a nephew-####-filial-figure can. I wish we get to see them together for a few more chapters before they inevitably part ways.
Timbones's personality. The Kid Hero trope is sorta overdone, but they are usually static cardboard cutouts with either massive amounts of angst and none at all. Timbones is different - he loves his aunt and uncle, and while he doesn't have much faith in himself, he is willing to try his best to avoid disappointing them. I can respect that.

Category: Interpreter
Name: Scorpio, Lord of Rain, Bringer of Floods
Species: Gila Monster
Age: 40s
Summary: Scorpio is chased by a lapine member of the Ring into a ravine. After a tense exchange involving a lot of anger from the Ring member, a lot of condescension from Scorpio and a few projectiles being launched, the hare tries to climb up to catch the lizard, but slips on the rocks. Scorpio explains, with even more condescension, that he had lured the hare to the ravine just as it rains, and gloats loudly as the Ring member is carried away to his death by a flash flood.
One thing I didn't like:
Something irks me about Scorpio's pursuer - the fact that it isn't pursuers in the plural is one. If there's just one Ring member and nobody else (not nobody important, NOBODY) the Gila monster won't be that big of a threat to Kango. Then again, perhaps the hare just really hates Scorpio. In that case, some words could be spent on lining that up.
Two things I liked:
Scorpio. He is the last thing I would expect from a meteorologist. Instead of being calm and always possessing an air of professionalism, Scorpio is the closest thing to a manic sorcerer this world can possess. The concept of an oath-bound individual getting around what they had sworn and fighting their enemies isn't a new concept (see Wheel of Time), but it's definitely underused.
The dialogue. While the hare is being entirely serious, Scorpio is not. He has won and he knows it like the back of his paw, so why not make this fun for him? I find the part where Scorpio explains everything about the water cycle to the hare to be quite fun.

Category: Interpreter
Name: Ixchel
Species: Ocelot
Age: 35
Summary: Ixchel gets a visit from a jackrabbit, a member of the Ring. She performs a ritual that tells him that his hunt for the Gila would go well. It does, though there are hints that she is helping the Gila as well.
One thing I liked:
The rituals are clearly displayed. What Ixchel does and what Ixchel can do could attract the attention of a few new readers, even though the common image of an Interpreter is to be more scientific and less ritualistic. This could change the way the world is seen.
Two things I didn't like:
The writing is quite rough, with a large portion of sentences being long ones with an excess of commas, It would do the reader a world of good if shorter sentences are used.
Tense issues. It's slightly hypocritical for me to comment on them, but there is clearly an excess of modal verbs and tense inconsistencies that might disrupt the reader's attention.

Category: Interpreter
Name: Gilbert Greysand
Species: Grey Fox
Age: 50
Summary: Gilbert spies a customer who asks him for advice. The drought is getting worse, but Gilhert is rather insistent that Cyno the prairie dog do what he was told a few seasons back. They have lunch, and Gilhert reveals a bit of family history, nonchalantly talking about his murdered father.
One thing I didn't like:
The widespread use of italics could be rather disruptive to the reader, especially since they do not know what the emphasis on certain words and phrases mean.
Two things I liked:
Gilhert and Arize. These two are very compatible, and something behind them screams 'smug subtle sinisterness'. Still, Gilhert (rightfully) gets more attention because it's his app, and we see his craftiness on full display. He's the fox seer everyone was looking for in another category.
The Interpreter's relation to his environment. There really isn't any way for Gilhert to not realise that the times have changed and so have the clouds, but there is some way for him to influence what beasts do in response. What that response is depends on the Interpreter, and this particular Interpreter is kind of a sleazy wick. What happens next is not exactly predictable, so there's a strong hook to look forward to.

Category: Bone Rattler
Name: Saoirse the Unbound
Species: Rattlesnake
Age: Slightly above adolescent
Summary: Katalina, a member of the Knights of the Claw, drags a stoat behind her to visit Saoirse. The rattlesnake was stolen away as an egg, and had been kept inside Castle Blackspear since. After playing dead and spending time disrespecting Katalina, Saoirse then crushes the stoat and obtains a prophecy that Kastor's enemy will be called Chainbreaker.
One thing I didn't like:
Biology aside (venomous snakes are not constrictors), around half of the app focuses not on Saoirse, but on Katalina or Castle Blackstone. While this might have worked in a straight fic, this is an application with an upper limit of 800 words. Maybe extra dialogue or using Saoirse's point of view would have made this application more effective.
Two things I liked:
Saoirse and Katalina's dynamic. Even though we never got to see why Katalina took her as an egg, it's like a twisted parent-child relationship, and I can't wait to see how it plays out. Especially since Saoirse gets more and more chances to break free of Katalina's control once they head south.
The atmosphere. Throughout the app the reader could get a feeling that bad things were to ensue, and rather quickly at that. Saoirse's writer had carefully crafted a world where things are about to go wrong, with castles holding dozens of prisoners throughout and the freezing cold and serpents being held in dungeons. This is all rather unnerving, and I would say intentionally so.

Category: Bone Rattler
Name: Augur Wren
Species: Mink
Age: 43
Summary: Augur Wren and her subordinates arrive at Chandler's Light to find a lot of dead bodies, including that of her apprentice and its Duke. There is evidence of a fight between beasts of the town and Staid Hearth, another settlement, and the bodies are frozen in the inclement weather. The mink decides to take what they can carry and leave the town behind.
One thing I didn't like:
The app is rather confusing. I had to read it six times to have a basic idea of what was happening, and even now I am still not sure. Perhaps slowen the pace slightly?
Two things I liked:
The technical writing was amazing, and it made me feel that I was there, seeing the ex-town with the eyes of Augur Wren, the rather impatient Rattler who just happens to engage in some detective work.
Worldbuilding. The cities in the North (and South) are not going to be inhabited or maybe even existent once our story begins, and we start to see deserted towns in the app. The situation sounds extremely nightmarish, and I have a sinking feeling that this is the beginning of a worrying trend.

Category: Bone Rattler
Name: Gauta Firstflame
Species: Fisher
Age: Late 30s
Summary: Gauta rattles some bones over a fire as her son Bonn watches. She rambles on and on about fire before getting interrupted by her mate Rellan, who does not approve of her new ways. Gauta then explains that she heard rumours about the sea claiming entire cities, and that their destiny lies south. Rellan and Bonn are reluctant to accompany her, so she storms away.
One thing I liked:
Gauta's dialogues/monologues. It's very clear that she is not attentive to the wants and needs of her mate and pup. That, alongside her obsession with all things burning, might help propel the story forward in a unique direction.
Two things I didn't like:
Gauta's character. While the app was able to bring her personality forth well, Gauta doesn't look like a character with much room to grow or conflict to participate in. What she does overtakes who she is, and she just feels shallow to me.
Lack of conflict in the app. It feels to me that Gauta just walks away from her family without a proper extended conflict between them. Fewer words could be used by Gauta and more by Rellan and Bonn. It could simply be the case that there is a high amount of offpage drama, but we barely got to see anything.

Category: Bone Rattler
Name: Wenona
Species: Lynx
Age: 20
Summary: Wenona engages in a bit of Bone Rattling, trying to know if she will marry the Ice Walker Mikom. At the First Feast Biskane the owl, the village's Bone Rattler reveals that Wenona is going to be the next Bone Rattler, thus confining her to a life of loneliness.
One thing I didn't like:
There really isn't much reason to have the Bone Rattler be forbidden from romantic attachments in-universe. A tradition or superstition could be a good reason, but that was not present in the text itself.
Two things I like:
The depiction of life in the northern taiga was very detailed. We see a lot of what Bone Rattlers do, naturally, but some Ice Walkers also make an appearance. More importantly, the app paints a very detailed picture of how the average beast lives and some of the northern customs.
Wenona's potential. She's a Bone Rattler deprived of opportunity to be with the beast she loves, all while things are crashing down throughout the north. The stress she's under might break her, but we all know readers love drama and conflict. What would she do, now that her fate has been changed so much?

Category: Bone Rattler
Name: Marrow
Species: Spotted Skunk
Age: 24
Summary: Jhoti Tusktaker, an Ice Walker talks to Marrow about his experiences on the marine ice. His family was killed in an accident, and Marrow regretfully informs him that he was as well. Jhoti's spirit returns to his ancestors while Marrow watches, and the skunk wakes up. After a little argument between Marrow and his companions, the Rattler resolves to return Jhoti's pendant to his daughter.
One thing I didn't like:
This application focuses too little on Marrow, as the first segment is written from Jhoti's point of view, while Koga and Ruka stole away some of the focus as well.
Two things I liked:
How spirits worked. While it is clear that some beasts (read: Ruka) do not understand or believe what Marrow does, we get a clear idea of how the process works. I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that Marrow played the 'ferrybeast' archetype instead of a more Redwallish seer, and I'm hoping to see more of that.
Koga and Roga's interactions with Marrow. One of them believes in what Marrow does wholeheartedly, the other disbelieves in what he does just as wholeheartedly. Assuming they make it into future contest rounds with him, we are going to be entertained.

Category: Bone Rattler
Name: Haar
Species: Sea Otter
Age: Approximately 20
Summary: Haar performs a bone rattling and announces that their kingdom is doomed, and they would now have to venture into the Cursed Forest. The otter slips away in the chaos that follows, and double-checks his predictions via the now-banned practice of haruspicy.
One thing I didn't like:
The app seems a bit cluttered. Most of the words are spent conveying information that we as readers already know, and the lack of inter-paragraph spacing did not help.
Two things I liked:
Haar and haruspicy. Haar is so uncertain of his abilities that he uses outlawed methods to help with his rattling, and that part could be played for a bit of drama once the plot starts to roll.
The descriptions. While we already have an idea of what Haar said in his foretellings, the ceremony was unique. We get detailed visuals of what happens when and how the ritual begins and concludes, and what Haar exactly does.

Category: The Ring
Name: Siroc
Species: Prairie Dog
Age: 33
Summary: Siroc is currently residing in some sort of monastery belonging to the Zephyrite Renunciants. She is visited by Preetya, a plover member of the Ring, calling her back to Kango. The bird then hands over evidence that the monastery is colluding with the enemy, and the prairie dog burns it down after a couple of days. She then has a chat with Preetya over some cactus moonshine.
One thing I didn't like:
We never really got to know why Siroc was in the abbey, making the app rather confusing on my first read. Perhaps she was taking a break from Ring work, or she got into trouble with Kango or her colleagues - but we might never know.
Two things I liked:
The amazing technical writing. Like with Augur Wren, this app is far beyond my reading level, but the emotions it evokes were clear and concise. We get a picture within Siroc's head, and understand what she is going through.
Siroc and Preetya's relationship. It's clear from the app that they have a history of working together even before Kango did his thing, and they clearly have chemistry and a very, very strong bond that might be tested later on in the story.

Category: The Ring
Name: Ninthclaw Teshan
Species: Sea Otter
Age: Early 40s
Summary: Teshan and his superior Amarra arrive at the burnt and abandoned fortress of Galtrik. Resting underneath its walls, the two realise the Gilas had set their remaining slaves alight with the fortress, leading to a discussion about Teshan's earlier life. He spent his life up north before being captured and dragged southwards, and he's suffering from a great deal of homesickness. Amarra tries to comfort him, but the otter brushes her off.
One thing I didn't like:
Some lines in the application are too long, causing the app to be somewhat tougher to read, as we have no idea where in the sentence we should focus on. The app can be trimmed several times and lose virtually nothing.
Two things I liked:
Teshan's origins. I loved how Amarra didn't know anything about the northern side of the world (yet). He has been to places she didn't even know of, but when the Clans head north and the otter follows them, he will have to clash with the beasts from his homeland. There's a lot of potential for drama.
Teshan and Amarra's relationship - or this time, lack thereof. It's clear that despite fighting alongside each other in the same organization for three seasons and on the same side for even longer, they don't really know each other that well. Them discovering each other's attributes and secrets would make for a pretty good subplot... assuming there is time for a subplot.

Category: The Ring
Name: Locke the Laughing Lance
Species: Ocelot
Age: 30-ish
Summary: The raccoon Shadowpaw is caught stealing food from Locke's camp, and Ari the coyote escorts him into the ocelot's tent. After Locke scans the raccoon a bit he has Shadowpaw cut off a part of his own tail, shocking Ari as the Ring member goes back to his plans for battle.
One thing I didn't like:
The app does not have a clear focus on Locke. Instead, Ari and Shadowpaw get to have a few sections centred on them. While this is perfectly acceptable in a (solo) fanfiction or a roleplay, the word count in an application is very much limited, and the character to enter the contest needs as much focus as one can get - the main character (singular) should not be overshadowed.
Two things I liked:
Locke's issues. Out of the Ring applications, Locke seems to have hidden away a lot. Ari's image of the members of the Ring are clearly too idealistic, but seeing that image fall apart and crumble once we see who Locke actually is (an angry ocelot broken by the Gilas) and what he represents (anger, grief and an all-you-can-eat buffet of VENGEANCE) was a bit cathartic.
What we know of Locke, and more importantly what we do not. We only get little glimpses at Locke's backstory and personality, but it is very clear that he is hiding a large number of issues beneath the civil veneer. The mystery might have been a cause or an effect of the lack of focus on Locke, but I like it regardless.

Category: The Ring
Name: Dilla
Species: Armadillo
Age: 27
Summary: Some lizards are accosting a mouse family when three armadillos stop them - by beating the cuss out of them. Dilla and her two colleagues, Jake and Sis, have a discussion about Kango before they head off with the mice.
Two things I didn't like:
The fact that I had to copy the text of this app and format it on a tablet speaks for itself. Poor spacing might render any impressive application unacceptable for voters.
Dilla doesn't get much focus - see Locke's point. Jake and Sis peeled away at the word count that should have belonged to the character Dilla's author wanted to introduce primarily (take a good guess). I personally don't see why either one of them should not be in this app, if not both. Perhaps the trio would have worked better if the application had been from Dilla's point of view from start to finish.
One things I liked:
Dilla's version of the Ring. She's clearly more idealistic than the other three Ring applications, which is honestly a breath of fresh air. It stands to me that Dilla's app is written in an earlier stage of the war, and whether her hope crumbles or stands strong would be a question worth thinking about.
I may know the answers,
Though one question I still hear.
What twist in fate has brought us
To roads that run so near?
Distant worlds together.
Miracles from realms beyond.
The life-light burns inside me
To sing with you this song.
