He's good, but...I really don't get what's happening. Read the ending several times and still don't get it. Someone's dead, and they're letting Tooley out? Who the heck is Ginson? Why do we care?

Since I just finished this category I'm going through the board now to read everyone else's reviews on the prisoners (I try to not read other reviews of apps I haven't read yet). Having just read Tooley, I can clarify this for you. You have to kind of go back to his recollections of previous times he got in trouble. One of those times was when he was on kitchen duty and (intentionally or accidentally) dropped a knife in first mate Ginson's soup. Apparently they took it as a very poor assassination attempt, and so now that the first mate's been poisoned to death, Tooley is top on the suspects list. It is kind of a lame conclusion that a knife in a soup bowl would be considered an assassination attempt, but it probably did annoy Ginson plenty if Tooley was thrown in the brig for it. Which meant there was some bad blood between the two at the least.

I guess the timeline is what doesn't make sense to me. He's in the brig for six days, but from the sound of it, Ginson was just poisoned. If he was in the brig while Ginson was being poisoned, how could he have done it? Or if he was put in there right after the poisoning, why are they just now questioning him? Unless these are particularly meticulous pirates we're talking about.

JewelThief: I personally don't see why she wouldn't fit in. She clearly has a dark side, as she was almost hoping bad things would happen just so she'd have some wounds to mend, and that's why she's changing jobs. And sometimes, I do like to go for the strongest writing. If there's a particular writing style I like, I want to see more of it. If someone has lousy SPAG, I don't really want to read seven or eight weeks of that, unless they have a phenomenal character to distract me from it.

Also, off on a tangent, but regarding Skiz: I DID mean betray the captain. I think. I just hadn't read the app in a while when I posted these up and couldn't remember that bit. Derp.

I think it's actually three days. He's counting six holes in his hat as though he'd been putting in a hole for each day in the brig, but then he corrects himself realizing that two of the holes were from his biting it in nervous panic and one (I think?) was because they didn't feed him and he needed to chew on something. So the dead guy's been dead 3 days, unless I misread it. Still, that is a while. Maybe they really are doing more detective work than is typical. Or maybe those in charge of Tooley's fate are really busy and put off dealing with him for a couple days. Anyway, that's how I read it. I liked the writing, but the competition was pretty steep in that category. If he'd been a cook it'd make more sense why he'd be in the brig for poisoning the first mate. And he'd totally win the cook category in a landslide, imo.

Just a heads up if anyone is like, actually missingy reviews. Firstly, why? And secondly, I'm going to be busy for the next....while. In-laws are in town from across the pond, and we're super shortstaffed at work for the immediate future, so...yeah. My focus is elsewhere at the moment. Just letting everyone know I'm not ditching, as is fairly common for the majority of a contest's audience these days. ^^

Yikes, I'm way behind. I'm only halfway through week one, and you've already got like five posts up in week two. Where's the usual procrastination?? I was rather banking on that. Maybe I'll have to do midweek reviews of some sort. I am still reading, slowly, but I am on day seven of a nine day work week and my brain is kind of mushy. Once I'm done though, I'm reviewing the crap out of these.

Pointless message over.
