Four words:
BLAZE OF THE SUN
(glow of the moon?)

(in my experience, nameism seriously happens to characters like this, as the name is universally hated but the writing is often quite good)

(also, only 23 apps so far, assuming most people have sent in two, that means about a 90% chance of each author getting in? If the numbers stay here, which they won't. I reckon about 30/35 apps in the end, with the majority of authors having submitted twice, giving a coin's-toss chance of getting in :D)

Cairn Destop

Also, Cairn, Lacrimosa is a real word.  It means weeping in latin, although more people are familiar with the requiem of the same name.

And I took Latin in high school for four years a long, long, long, long, (yeah, 38 years is a long time), ago.  So that got past me.  Still, it is fun coming up with your thoughts of the character solely on the strength or lack thereof, from the name alone.  Of course the old hedgehog has been fooled or has fixated on the wrong part of a character's name before now.

I hope Tara will do another name dump so we can have fun with first impressions.
In life, the only thing that ever adds up is a column of numbers.

Lacrimosa!  Like..... Like... Carpe Jugulum!

Like vampire Vlad love.

Sorry.  Had to get a Pratchett ref in.
May you live in interesting times.

This is the Vampiric Puppet Lamentation. :(

(vampirism reminds me of someone else <_< )

[Note from Tara, who's usurping the Baron's account to edit this: The long link 'twas messin' up the page a bit. Sorry. :P]

at least there's no Trogdor  ;D

I guess after Trogdorgate I'm the least-qualified person on the entire ROC to give commentary on names. But I shall do so anyway.

The Promise of Rain: Same person who wrote Death Duran for RedScape? Would make sense.

Not a huge fan of Coralclaw or Hearth as names, but I suppose I could learn to like them...

Damask the Minstrel. You put their job title right in the name? Odd.

Deadtail and Greenfang: I actually think it would be neat to have a canon-style vermin name for a character. Unless they're not vermin, that is. Greenfang as a timid mouse child would just be ridiculous.

Megara "Meg" Devon: Not a huge fan of characters being given nicknames right off the bat, and Meg Devon seems like a name you'd give to someone being wooed by James Bond.

Eliza, Ghervase, Sasha, Simon: I find the more people-ish names a tad off-putting, but at least they sound vaguely archaic. (EDIT: Suellyn might belong on this list. It looks suspiciously like "Sue-Ellen". Same goes for Elin/Ellen if Elin is female. :/ )

The rest of the names seem fairly neat, and I'd like to see what transpires.  :)
Pre-emptively cheering on the following top nine names: Cyrus, Whiver Bean, Greenfang, Elin Sarkozy, Deadtail, Hazenval, Eliza Lacrimosa, Damask the Minstrel, and Alethia.

IPlanToBiteYou

Damask is probably just an anthropomorphised small chocolate with a crunchy sugary shell.

...

gnom?

Balmafula

Damask made me think of Daskar.  Y'know, as in Vilu Daskar?

I like it, though.

IPlanToBiteYou

Damascene Minstrels. They sounds very tasty... o.o

Also, haha, eight hours to go and the site traffic has gone up. A LOT. :D

Damask means curtain, I think. :)

Wow, only 24 apps? I though RV would have a LOT of them... so.. say another 15 come in tonight, that would be about 40, which means... 1 in 3 chance of each author getting in? WOW.

Some more name commenting:

Celosia: name of a flower. I know that, 'cos I was gonna open a RW club with that name.

The Promise of Rain(e): LOL um, is there even a first name?  If not, it's probably an anthropormophic personification. Grreat.

Lacrimosa- @Kenner: -high fives- that's exactly what I was thinking! XD Lacci was so annoying in that book.

Thetradt- Oh wow. Tongue twister.. :P

Suellyn: Has the word SUE in it. Hopefully that isn't a bad sign..

Sasha Carrigan: Wasn't there a Sasha in RS as well? o.o

Lykke: Probably a dibbun.

The name I like most right now is Revel. Sounds appropriately noun-ish while also being a verb.  ;)

Ms Pearl

good guess Saffy Damask is a type of fabric that curtains are occationally made out of  ;D i thought so but i googled it to make sure.

actually when i first saw that i thought of Da Mask like Da Bears and Da Bulls. Sorry there's some crazy Chicago fans in my family.

Balmafula

I thought the same thing about Suellyn.  At least the name isn't Marisuellyn :P

I don't seem to recall a Sasha in RS, but that could be just me being forgetful.  Was she/he an NPC or an app?

saffy

Oh...never mind. I was thinking of Kara. -facepalm-

I've heard the name somewhere, though..

Balmafula

XD Okay, I was wondering.

I do hope that Sasha wears sunglasses all the time and speaks in a German accent.  And uses his amazing psychic powers to light his cigarettes.

... Or maybe I've been playing too much Psychonauts. >_>

Good thing I've got oodles of bandwidth to spare! :P

And I dunno about Redscape, but my main character on the VI is named Sasha. ;D

Yah, yah! That's what I was thinking about. :) Oh dear, haven't gone on the VI for so long.. >.<
