So just so you all can relax, and because I'm always paranoid that the entry form is going to glitch on me, I'll post up the names of the apps we've received here. If you don't see your name on the list, we haven't received it. If the form is giving you trouble, you can email it to me. I'll update this as we receive more apps, but if you don't see your name appear on this list soon after you submit your app, don't panic! I might just not have had time to update it yet. If it's not there by an hour after apps close, though, let me know!

So without further ado...

I know people commented on the names for Redscape...

at least there's no Trogdor  ;D

The irony... I just jokingly called my Barb in Diablo II Trogdor.

But... imagine a monitor nicknamed "The Burninator". Oh yes, I'll let that sink in.

Wow, I was expecting a larger turn out for the apps. Only 23 there by my count. Anyway, I'm very interested in The Promise of Rain, if only because it seems silly. I'm also wondering how some of them are pronounced. For instances: Ghervase. Now, is it Ger-vehs or Ger-vahs? Elin Sarkozy makes me think of the French president...>>

Well, as we got about 35% of our apps today, I'm guessing everyone has just decided to wait until the last minute. As usual. I'm almost scared at what state my inbox will be in tomorrow night. ;)

Plus, I'm only allowing two per person instead of the usual three, so there was bound to be a smaller amount anyway.

Well, I suppose it's better than "I Lick Lykke." Because this is just not that kind of contest. ;D

It would depend on what Lykke is. There are some things I can easily see myself licking, and some things I just ... no.

Fates, I hope it's not a toad.

I also like (and might like to lick):
Alethia
Eilat
Elin Sarkozy
Ghervase
Greenfang
Hearth
Revel
Simon

I was kinda hoping Hearth was "Heath", but it's still nifty... Simon is a nice, plain name that's been in the books and ROC before, not to mention FIREFLY (wee!). Greenfang and Deadtail seem the most canon - probably vermin. But Deadtail doesn't appeal to me on a phonetic level, like Revel and Ghervase and Eilat. I like simple names that still have a bit of a twist to them. Even so, sometimes a simple name with a twist just doesn't strike me as a word I'd like to say out loud, like Suellyn, Venril and Hazenval. *shrug* Not bad names, they just don't make my brain go "Ooh, lovely noises!" But I'm strainge. Alethia is pretty - so is Celosia, they both sound maideny. And Sarkozy is ... cozy! XD (I admit, I first misread it as "Snarkozy" and that alone just made my day complete.)

I'll not comment on all of them, but here are a few that caught my attention.  Apologies to those who filed these.  And Dirgecallers, I expect you to have something to say since you suggested this topic.  Strictly first impressions.

Bellona Littlebrush = made me think of a sandwitch.  Am thinking squirrel

Coralclaw Sorrel = definitely an otter.

Damask the Minstrel = like the title as it hints this is a stage name and not his/her true name.

Deadtail = vermin.

Eliza Lacrimosa = female character based on somebody named Elizabeth.  I'm also thinking vermin as the last name sounds like larceny and crime combined.

Greenfang = A confusing name.  Not sure if it refers to a hare's favorite diet, greens, or if it is a vermin with mold.

Hearth = definite woodlander, possibly female and mole.  Sounds very domesticated.

Regglo Swiftshot = Thinking male squirrel with a sling.

Simon = Not my favorite as it sounds too "human" for a Redwall character.

The Promise of Rain = I hate this name and I don't even know the character or the writer.  Hope there is a real name to go with this tongue-twistng title.
In life, the only thing that ever adds up is a column of numbers.

Hmm, when I first glanced at the name "Lacrimosa," it immediately made me think of the word "lachrymose." No idea if that was intentional or not though.

Eilat stands out to me in particular, since I was there this Summer :P.   It would be beyond awesome if this was chosen deliberately, and the character was a desert-dweller.

Also, Cairn, Lacrimosa is a real word.  It means weeping in latin, although more people are familiar with the requiem of the same name.

A few names of note:

Coralclaw - I admit to not being a great fan of the noun-adjective naming convention, as canon as it is, but this name just sounds nice to me.  Rolls trippingly off the tongue, you might say.

I admit, I did rather wish that Hearth had been Heath.  Alas.

As for The Promise of Rain... I'm not sure what to say.  It seems to me like someone was very confident to have given their character such a name, so it's likely to be either very good or just very strange.  I'm eager to find out, either way, and if this beastie doesn't get in, they'd better post the app somewhere on the forum!  *brandishes scalpel*

Simon IS a normal name, but I like it.  It adds to the realism; not every character needs to have a fancy-dancy "exotic" name.  And it's a solid name, so yes.

If I see anybeast else of note, I'll be sure to say something... maybe. *shrug*

Ooh, that's lovely! When I first saw it, I ... sort of thought of... drat it. Wossword. Like gangrene. Like a limb rotting - flesh death. Sounds very gothic, dark, and flowy. A bit like a name might be found in Harry Potter, one of the Death Eater witches. Ah - necrosis! That's the word I was thinking of. I guess 'cos some of the letters are the same.

But it also reminds me of frozen dessert, like a fancy French frozen pudding. So.
