Any (fan)artists on here?

Now I'm not one to brag, especially since I couldn't draw a straight line with a ruler, so I'm not going to do it.   ;D

But I do have a question for our resident artists.  Which style do you prefer?  The flat-footed cartoon version that mimics humans or the animalistic balls of the foot style?  And since it stirs such a hot reaction, do you prefer head fur or not?  If it is dependent on species, how about letting us know your artistic preferences.

It varies from picture to picture with me. Generally if they're wearing trousers or a skirt of some kind I go for flat footpaws just because it's easier for me. Otherwise I draw them more on the balls of their feet...er, footpaws. Either way I'm not that good with footpaws. :P

Oh, and definitely NO HEADFUR. Even if I could draw it properly, I think it looks atrocious, especially the headfur that is randomly a completely different color from the rest of the beast's fur. A little tuft on top of their head is one thing, since as these animals walk upright like humans it's not unreasonable to make the conclusion that the fur on their head would have to grow a bit thicker atop their head, like humans...Wasn't there a Terrouge article about this many years back? But anyway, nothing makes me shudder more than a reddish-orange furred vixen with long, flowing platinum blonde or raven headfur. :P

It's okay. They're mean, I know, but some of us still love you.

It all depends on how you encountered anthropomorphic art first, I think. If you first came into it through Redwall, you're more likely to like balls-of-feet/no-headfur. If you first encountered it through furry art, then the opposite is more likely to be true.

Me? I generally prefer more human, though it more depends on the artist, for me. There are plenty of good less-anthro artists that are great. And there are certainly a lot of good furry artists out there. And some are a little of both. Gloria Pike's art is more anthro, now, but her main character, Twap, started out more Redwall-ish. So it all depends.

I can and do draw both ways. When I first started out drawing Redwally stuff, my charries were digi-grade and headfur-less. Then I started learning more about human anatomy and getting into some artists who used headfur effectively and I started incorporating their stuff. These days, most of my stuff is more humany with flat feet, though I tend to avoid headfur. Terri, my VI charrie does have headfur still, though...mainly because I can no longer picture her without it. *hides from Tara* My new charrie designs are pretty much all limited to tufts of hair on head, though.

Well, to each their own, I s'pose. I think I tried drawing headfur once...

...I felt unclean. :twitch:

Sparrowhawk

I was always fond of the subtle, tufty sort of headfur on males - and I really liked that picture of, I think it was Gabbi from QBIV, who had long headfur but in the same grayish color as her fur. It looked adorable and not weird like headfur will when drawn by an unpracticed hand. I guess that contest in general was less Redwall-y anyway.

So yes. I think there is well done animalesque art and well done humanesque art, and... less well-done varieties of both. I don't know! I like it all, and I don't draw anyway so I'm not in the best position to pass judgement.

I'm going to present two examples of such art.  The first has both the flat feet of humans as well as a hint of head fur.  I used this picture, with the artist's permission in my fan fiction "The Sapient Plague."

I didn't use this picture, but it is from the same online comic site.  This one has a balled footed character.

Hedgehog is green with envy of anyone who can draw like this.

Hoy! Lookit! The first RV5 NPC drawing!

And then I bashed him with my hammer.

I'm feeling kinda lonely here as a fanartist. *pokes the others* Keane! I'll have some death arts for you soonish. Got work to do tomorrow, but hopefully I can get something together for Zombie Leaguer #2. Sorry Cocaine Kitty. =(

Revel

Birch birch birch! She's adorable! Although I thought her hammer was more like Link's from Ocarina of Time.

Can you do Nivard after Keane? :duck: Pretty pretty please?
And I hope that you know that nature is so
This same rain that draws you near me
Falls on rivers and land, and forests and sand,
Makes the beautiful world that you'll see in the morning

To all reviewers, past and present, thank you! I don't always find something to say in reply to each reviewer but I do my best to read them and will take their advice as best I can. You are appreciated!

Ahah...^^; I'll do what I can, guys, but I'm not going to make any promises when I'm not sure if I can keep 'em.

(EDIT: I'm sorry, Keane Kitty! Wait just a bit longer and I'll have a lovely piccy for you. I'm having some trouble getting what I want with your coat, so I've been looking about for references. In the mean time, I was struck be mad inspiration for Nivard. Or rather, I should say...Revel was struck. Poor stoaty. Nobody deserves abuse. ;_;
