Needles don't bother me at all.  On the other paw, just mention the word "throat culture" and I'm outta there :P

I donate whole blood pretty regularly, so I'm fine with needles.

Now, should you mention a hernia test. >.<

Sadly, I can't donate blood (Four different exceptions on the Red Cross list.  Thanks inbred aristocratic ancestors, for all the recessive genes!)... but having blood taken is not a problem for me.  Nor are throat cultures.

I would rather have either of these things done than take an eye exam.  I'm twitchy, and the little puff-of-air machine is awful, dilation is horrid (and lasts a really, really long time on me... and if I can't read for two days, basically my life ceases to occur for two days), and I had to be physically held down when I was being fitted for contact lenses (I don't wear them, surprise).

At work, I have a separate window with 4 tabs: The forum index, my email, the twitter, and the RV5 main page.

I really don't check them that often. Honest.

Donated blood and managed not to make a scene. Woo! Wos able to shut down the hysterical laughter before it took hold and just had a few stray tears to contend with. Felt bad for the staff. They kept asking if I was okay and telling me I was being very brave... On second thought, they were condescending blighters who deserved my nervousness. ;P Have felt a bit drained since then, though.

Quote from: Captain Ashpaw on September 24, 2009, 03:24:22 PMthe little puff-of-air machine is awful,

The puffy-air machine is the bane of my existence! My eyes have only been getting worse since I was six, so even if I just want to re-order contacts I have to have an exam, because my prescription has probably changed. My eyes start watering just in anticipation of the air puffs! And I know it's just air, and I know I look like the biggest child for always flinching away from the machine, but I can't help it! It's terrifying.

As for what I'm thinking right now: What exactly is making me so darn unhireable?!?

Ah, blood. It's in you to live. As much as I appreciate blood donations and what not, I just can't bring myself to do it knowing how some of those clinics operate. Quite appalling really, but I have no need to get into it. Too many legalities. I can't donate blood, anyways. Slow bleeder; you have to fill a pint in ten minutes or less, and it takes while to draw even a simple blood sample from me.

Besides, it's all about bone marrow. Bone marrow is cool, is 'in', is hip <---hoohoo, I did it again!

Hey, Dozystoat...Are you, by chance...that Tummo Troublo fellow Who composed those songs for QB4?

What I have to say about needles is yes, I now too have a fear of them because of a recent medical issue. They used a Butterfly needle, and since my veins had very flat blood in them or some other excuse, they shove the needle into one of the big veins in my wrist. And if that wasn't enough, it was springloaded out of my vein! That thing didn't stop bleeding for like twenty minutes! :twitch:

And yes, the eye-puffer thing bothers me too. I dread taking that thing again. :(

This conversation puts me in mind of something that Dave Barry wrote:
"Curt was working late at his office- perhaps going through the Official Catalog of Supplies fo Doctor's Offices. which lists needles ranging all the way from Extra Large to Harpoon..."
That's pretty much my opinion of needles right there.

Now, now. You'll give Dozystoat a swelled head with talk like that. In any case, I'll answer here and say that Dozy and Tummo Troublo are two different people. Both talented in the musical ways, but different.

As for what I'm thinking right now: What exactly is making me so darn unhireable?!?

The fact that despite generous assistance from both this administration and the previous one, the major capital providers in our economy are largely continuing to horde capital and are therefore not loosening the excessive tightness of credit.  Furthermore, consumer confidence, although not as dismal as at the worst point, is still sufficiently low that people are restricting their economic activity.  Worries about foreclosure, stock fluctuation and other factors are continuing to drive down discretionary spending.  Furthermore, employment tends to be governed partially by inertia.  It takes a while for a stock decrease to manifest in lost jobs, and it takes a while for a stock increase to manifest in job creation.

Furthermore, some industries are worse off than others.  The public sector, including teaching, military/security/intelligence and welfare administration, and the medical and biological science sectors are both largely unaffected.  Conversely, consumer products and retail have seen the worst damage, and although in my perspective most of the changes in Defense acquisitions policy have been highly beneficial from a tactical point of view by removing waste and freeing resources for inexpensive, versatile weapons systems such as MQ-9s and MRAPs, they may have a problematic effect on manufacturing and engineering.

Granted, most economists say that the worst is behind us.  Even the notoriously dour Nouriel Roubini has shown signs of some hope.  However, a full recovery is not likely to occur until some amount of time has past, although most projections show modest but noticeable improvements within a year.
