I wouldn't mind some role play, world building or not c:

A full-blown Audience RP could be interesting, and I like the idea, but (as has been mentioned here) it would take a good deal of structure to pull off correctly. But it's worth a shot if people are interested in participating. Schmeevils, you're probably a good person to ask about this. I know Audience RP's have been attempted in times past--are there any notable times when they worked well, and if so, what about it led to its success?

Also, excellent point about the infrastructure. Maybe after the voting is done for the Top 30, a thread can be set up where people can grant the cast the right to use their character, but also apply a few parameters as to what their job is, whether or not they're combatants within the Crater, if they're okay with the character dying, etc. I do think it's important that the Top 10 be allowed to use any NPCs freely without consulting their original authors, but some parameters would work well, and allow the Top 10 to respect the creator's wishes without bogging down the pace of the contest via waiting for responses or checking to see if certain plans are kosher.

We should probably keep it simple, though, both in Audience RP or Character Donation. I know I mentioned in the other thread seeing the super cool idea for audience participation in Questors Bold IV, but we don't have the time to build something that complex or involved. A great idea to consider for future contests, absolutely, but I say for this we just ride the waves as they come.

You all have intrigued me a bit...the notion that the character you've written has more investment on your part (logistically/emotionally, etc) than to leave them to eventually perish in the Crater (fodder or otherwise) is interesting. For me, if my lads/lasses don't survive to the 30, I don't feel badly, but for those of you who would: is it the back-story you've created, or their personality, or some other attribute that makes them worth more to you? Asking because this is interesting to me.
Hello again.

Ashleg

For me it's the personality.
I feel like if I don't get in to the top 30, I will post the app for ya'll to read anyway.

And this is actually a character that I want to develop in story and then kill off. It's not the death I wouldn't like, but having somebody else control my character.

I just like them. In my mind they have hopes and dreams and want to live. I have always loathed the idea of "throw-away characters," and to give them up to be killed in the arena would feel that way, even if they do have a strong backstory. They wouldn't be given the chance to grow on people or earn more audience sympathy, yet they have all of mine.
