Thread hijackery! Instigated by the contest leader!? Leave room for the newcomers.

That said: keep the limit at 3. Hard choices are an essential part of the creation process. Even if it means drowning your babies before they're born.

Also.

Merry Hello's Eve to Frost and their return. We're richer for their presence, as we are by the continuous stream of contest hopefuls. Feels like Christmas in a way. I'll be in the corner by the present pile with my tot of "barely qualifies as egg nog for all the rum therein" eggnog, and "wise old stories" for anyone who dare veer close.

Zevka

I've thought about this a while. I think I am going to raise the number of apps per person to 4, since there are more categories now than at the start. I will edit the general rules thread accordingly.

Hmm I'm unsure how I feel about the app change. On one hand, reading the apps is one of my favorite parts of the process. That being said, I'm a bit afraid this is a bit of a disadvantage for people who only have time/etc. to write one or two apps.

QuoteHow about you, Vin?

I did love both Swartt and Ferahgo. Vilu and Damug are good too. I like them because I feel like they are realistic warlords/captains? they all display a certain cunning and brutality I feel is necessary for the position. On the opposite end of the spectrum, though, are villains like Kurda and Clogg. They really seem a bit buffoonish for their positions and god, I couldn't stand Kurda's accent for some reason. I liked Raga Bol, though less for his character (can't remember that at all) but for his distinct appearance.

As for heroes, I loved the cast of Mossflower. They remind me of the rebels in Prince Caspian. Skipper is a gem. Brocktree might be my favorite badger warlord. And, of course, Tagg + Nimbalo from Taggerung.

Zevka

Mossflower was the first Redwall book I ever read. I was in 4th Grade, and I was curious about the book series full of talking animals and swords that even some of the less bookish member of my class seemed to enjoy. The rest, as they say, is history. I really should thank those guys someday...

The less characters submitted the bigger the chance for other writers to get in.

I know for my part, I'm going to hold myself to the 3 app rule. While I could make use of 4, I don't really feel the need to do so. But I don't mind the change, so long as it doesn't end up being that some of our more experienced writers have more of a monopoly on the Top 30.

And I really liked Tagg and Nimbalo as well. Can't even necessarily say why--I tend to hate extremely assertive characters like Nimbalo, but something clicked there with his character that made it work for me.

Xorvath

Opps, forgot to officially say "hi all" and "I'm back." Excited to see what characters are out there this time around. :)

The limit was three all along? ;_;

No, Zev changed it to four. No worries. Who are you, by the way? Do I know you?

Me too! Did you submit an app? Hopefully more than one this time!

Rascal

(taken with a grain of salt) You are given a second account here if one of your apps get in c: but yes, only the judge should know which apps are yours :)

Kingsdotr

Hey everybody! Been super busy with work, and wrangling a portion of 112 kids for a week, so I've been hovering mostly.... I am applying for the contest though, and am REALLY EXCITED! My good friend Vera applied in MOIII, and while I was too late to apply myself, I was an enthralled member of the audience for all the kicks, giggles, and heartbreak. *glares at Tooley* Glad to meet everybeast, and can't wait to see what this contest holds!
I knew then. I knew I would never be like them. I would do everything in my power never to become them. I only feared that I would lose myself to that focus. Either way, I would no longer be me.

Not sure if I'm meant to stay anonymous on this account, as it shares a name with the email address I used to submit my apps?

Hmm, I don't think anyone could figure out what email you used to submit your apps, but even if they did, that alone probably wouldn't spoil which characters you wrote. But Rascal's right, only reveal your identity so long as it doesn't spoil which characters you submitted.

Quite the enigma you are, though. I'll ask one question - feel free to answer or not: have you ever had an account on the forum before?

(please be saveaux. or falar ransted.)

and heartbreak. *glares at Tooley*

I regret nothing.

Welcome back, Kingsdotr, and to Xorvath as well! Very excited to hear you're both applying, and I second the sentiment of anticipation for what the contest holds. Sure to be tons of bloody, gory fun!

Tooley Bostay

Hmm... Jason...

*does some digging*

As in, QBIV's administrator Jason? Iiiinnnnterestinggg. Have you been keeping up with the contests since then, or did you just happen to stumble on the site? I've a ton of questions about Questors Bold, and your history with the contests and all, but I'll just ask what made you interested in applying for this 'un?

Frost

!!!!

So excited to see ya again, Jason! Cheers, mate.
Hello again.

Tooley Bostay

Well, we're certainly glad to have you back and on-board, mate!

Well, for one, your experience administrating Questors Bold itself would be a fun story to hear, but specifically, I saw that QBIV had a new gimmick attached to it, where the overarching story conflict between the woodlander village and the vermin settlement was decided - or at least influenced - by the players who made it to Top 30, with their characters acting as NPCs in the story.

I think this is absolutely brilliant. We've had a lot of conversations about how to keep people around after the app phase, or how to better get the audience's involvement in the story to matter, but how did this work in practice? Firstly, was it a success? What sort of hurdles and checks/balances had to be set up so that it wasn't burdensome or complicated for the cast themselves?

And, as a fun one, since you've been around the Survivor scene for some time: top 3 favorite Survivor characters, and why?
