Nah, I've still got some catching up to do. Funny, how I'm avoiding my own thread because of it . . .

In any case . . .

Quote from: Revers"You're one to talk... Oh, fine." Adriak whirled about and tugged the vixen into his arms, with all the grace and style of a prince catching a falling princess. "Well? More outsiders? What shall we do with them, love?"

"Kill them?" she suggested. The pine marten grinned. They kissed, briefly.

*barfbarfbarf*
And then he DIED!!!

Revel

Haha, Revers.  :D

Did Adriak really make you sick? Maybe that's good. Adriak is the embodiement of everything that is considered wrong. If Venril had survived, Adriak probably would have flirted with him too.
And I hope that you know that nature is so
This same rain that draws you near me
Falls on rivers and land, and forests and sand,
Makes the beautiful world that you'll see in the morning

To all reviewers, past and present, thank you! I don't always find something to say in reply to each reviewer but I do my best to read them and will take their advice as best I can. You are appreciated!

ADRIAK UPSETS ME BECAUSE HE INTERSPECIES!!!
And then he DIED!!!

So... what you're saying is that it wouldn't bother you if he was bi? Interesting. Well, you were in QBV, weren't you? Do tell, Miss Meadowbrook, how did you feel about the gay, interspecies romance in that contest?
Theirs not to make reply,
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die:
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.

DON'T GO THERE!

Oh man... so gonna send you some of my old Redwall MUCK logs, now, Syc. XD

(And I loved and loathed Adriak's "romance" at the same time. Loved that yes, it did feel wrong -- and intentionally wrong. Loathed, 'cause, well... it's kind of posturing. "Look! Interspecies is bad, right! /You/ feel icky reading it, so it must!" It eclipses the whole "destruction gets him off" which I think is ickier, personally... well... part of it is that yes, I /do/ want to defend interspecies romance. ^.^;; )

Well, I'm with Cairn on that one. However, I found the interspecies romance in this contest to be significantly less risque and used in a rather humorous vein.

Well, when you catch me making love to my cat, then I'll concede.

. . .

When you catch me.
And then he DIED!!!

Sycamore

Whose idea was it to name the cook Kirby? Because it is genius.
And then he DIED!!!

Venril

Except, I don't think it's anywhere close to the same thing.  Adriak and Kelly are both sentient, sapient, consenting adults.  Actually, they may well have been the MOST sentient adults in the area, given how the cavevermin sometimes act.  I really don't see how the analogy you used made any sense.
What'cha gonna do, PL?
What'cha gonna do, PL?
When Murphy shows up and s--- goes to hell,
What'cha gonna do, PL?

Damask the Minstrel

See, that's my beef, Venny. We can either act like Redwallers are talking animals.

Or.

They're "people" who are shaped as animals.

Considering they already go against instinct all the time (use tools, talk, co-habitate with other species. And, in the case of weasels/stoats/ferrets/cats/martens to rats or badgers to mice, live with their prey), I don't see a good argument for the first.

And if they're the second, well... like I said, it takes all kinds.

Less like Syc romancing his cat and more like one alien romancing another. Odd, for sure, but a staple in sci-fi for decades. Easily going back to "Stanger in a Strange Land", almost assuredly before that.

I'm halfway through The End, Part III.

Adriak should have been brought To The Pain!

*edit- The heck? Verand?
And then he DIED!!!

Read the whole post! It makes sense!
She walks in beauty, like the night
of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that's best of dark and bright
meet in her aspect and her eyes...

Totally still working on the RV5 epilogue, I swear...

Sycamore, are you still reading the story? I'm going to post some spoilers and I understand you snap at anyone and everyone who does . . .

*swishes tail*

I thought I mentioned this before, but apparently it had slipped my mind.

Quote from: Bellona"Um... I guess I should say... I've decided I'm going back home, back south with Captain Kirby and the rest when they leave.

"I like the Oasis all right," she added hastily as Sagaru opened her mouth to protest. "But I lost the shell that otter gave me, and I have my smithy to run... if Ara hasn't taken it over yet." The squirrel's eyes narrowed for a moment and she smacked the head of her hammer into one paw heavily, as if daring an invisible creature to try to steal her beloved premises.

"But, right. That's all I wanted to say."

"Thanks for your help, Birch," Bell half-smiled at the passionate -- yes, 'passionate,' was a much better descriptor than 'obsessed' or 'fanatical' -- blacksmith. "You fight good."

The squirrel cocked her head to one side and mock-saluted. "Never was there a grander compliment, Leftenant!" With a light chuckle, she sauntered off to find dinner.

Birch would be able to live with this experience -- that was comforting to know.

This whole passage made me cry, mostly because I was going to be traveling with vermin! T_T

Jarrtail

Frankly, I think that Birch could live through that. She's been doing it for the past few weeks.
