REVEL.

REVEL.

>:(

I kept thinking, you know, I kept thinking - she's gonna do it. She's gonna kill one. Or, or all of them. Or just leave one. One was gonna die in birth, I thought, was sure. After everything she's been through, no way they'd all get out okay, no. But... but then they did. They did. Every last one. And then, and then... so close! So close! You kept them alive! Through everything! Zubble was saved, the others were unharmed, they were fine through everything! A battle! Imprisonment! THEY WERE FINE.

And then... just like that.

;_;

I'm so mad at you right now. I haven't been this ticked off since Anora was voted out in RV2.

But... you did good, miss. Made me cry. That's something. Not a lot can make me cry. So, good on yer for that.

... and Bellona is the world's biggest jerk (sorry, Eliza, she beat you there), so thank you for punching her, too.

Revel, as well as Bellona and Eliza, remained very much in character.  To have Bellona acknowledge the contribution of Eliza or the emerging maternal instincts of Revel would not be in character.  Eliza's revulion is a bit more subtle, something our new mother wouldn't recognize, which is again in character.
In life, the only thing that ever adds up is a column of numbers.

One thing I noticed about Revel's most recent post is that she's now trying to make Nivard into a more "human" character, so to speak. It seemed a little OOC for him, in my opinion, but maybe he's only an abusive jerk to Revel.

Revel

Umm... my most recent post? Do you mean the last one that had Nivard in it? Nivard was telling Revel that she should have stayed in the slave ditch. After Revel sat on the chair and watched him sleep Nivard woke up and took her back there to chain her up because he didn't want her to get in trouble. She was still a slave back then. When she vanished with the rest of the slaves Nivard took that as her running away from him. When he got sick with heatstroke or stress related fever and Kirby was taking care of him, Nivard was going to ask Kirby to find Revel for him. Because of his personality he doesn't get very many females like Revel who wanted to be around him so he wanted to keep her for himself. Nivard felt very betrayed by her after that and along with his fever and cowardice felt he needed to assert himself to prove his worth to the rest of the corsairs.

:'( Sorry I made you cry Dozy. I hope you liked the rest of it! I promise Revel's epilogue won't be as sad.
And I hope that you know that nature is so
This same rain that draws you near me
Falls on rivers and land, and forests and sand,
Makes the beautiful world that you'll see in the morning

To all reviewers, past and present, thank you! I don't always find something to say in reply to each reviewer but I do my best to read them and will take their advice as best I can. You are appreciated!

Revel, I think what Jarrtail is referring to is Kirby's tale in your latest post. Nivard is portrayed as a much more sympathetic individual: he was a good doctor, he saved Kirby's life from Matukhana, he patched the old ferret up, he was 'young corsairs' with Kirby who remembers those days fondly. Everything else we've seen of Nivard suggests that he would never act in such a selfless manner. I mean, this might just be Kirby's rose-tinted vision of the past, but it's still clashes significantly with the picture you've painted so far of Nivard. Maybe it's just us stereotyping. *shrug* Not all cowardly, pig-headed jerks have to be that way with everyone all the time.

QuoteCan't let you do brew that, Starbucks!

Fixed that for you, Syc :P

Er, what's this?  I have to actually say something PERTINENT?  Phooey.

WELL.  Er, call me weird, Dozy, but when I read it I didn't get the impression that all the kits died.  Maybe I overlooked something?  If the post skipped around a lot and the very beginning was the "present" then I could see that, but if not then...

At the very least it appeared that Little Rath was still alive near the end so I could be somewhat relieved.

And I like what you've done with Nivard. Like Cricket said, he can't be expected to be the scum of everything ever at all times in his life.
I am the white void.  I am the cold steel.  I am the just blade.  With axe in paw shall I reap the sins of this world and cleanse it in the fires of destruction.  I am the Whirlwind; the end has come!

Nah, just Zubble died. Poor li'l stoaty  :'(

I KNOW RIGHT. I totally thought she'd go all hamster all of a sudden and devour them, or something awful like that.

Oh I'm sorry! Yes, Nivard was in Kirby's story.  :P I'm silly.

Nivard from Kirby's story was a long time ago it's true. And Kirby is the only beast he is nice to because of their history together. Kirby's been a cook long enough to have grown fat and good at his job, so Nivard has been Matukhana's lackey all this time and has grown nasty at seeing his friend turn into a blob while his old subordinate lords it over him... Wouldn't you be angry and mean and nasty?  ;)

Kirby is one of my favorite NPCs because of how he handles all this. He's just a really cool guy who keeps sensible and calm even though he's ugly and has a pegleg and his best friend turned into a monster.

I did consider this but I couldn't bring myself to have Revel do that. Her mothering instincts are too strong. Yikker-Vikvichip died in the flashback at the start of my post before Eliza could come back with the mushrooms. Revel buried her in Rath's grave. Then Zubble died...  :-[

Or he's heavily into denial. What ever works.
Actually, I really did like Kirby. It's not often you see the ship's cook take on such an important role such as captain. He handled it surprisingly well, too.

No, not all the kits! That's just the thing. Revel chose the exact amount to die to make me feel the worst about it! One would be fine. One would be expected. Or all BUT one - that would have been majorly bittersweet. Or if three died, leaving just two. Three is a good number, because it implies something went drastically wrong. It implies someone was targeting the kits. The rest would be survivors, and you could feel happy they lived. Two, now...

Two is an accident. Two is something that could have been avoided. Two is unfair. Zubble and Yikker shouldn't have died. No one was trying to kill them, no one wanted them dead, but it happened anyway. There's no one to blame. That's what makes it so tragic, to me. The rest aren't survivors - they're just the ones who didn't die. It's all just so... so stupid and pointless and it shouldn't have happened but it DID and ... argh.
