Mara the Wolf

Nagru didn't kill a wolf. He came across Urgan's dead body and skinned it and turned it into his personal armor/weapon.

QuoteI know that a couple of mice in the Redwall series use their tails as if they were an extra limb, which... is not possible if you're an ordinary mouse.

Actually, at least one Old World mouse species does have prehensile tails. They're called harvest mice, or, scientifically, Micromys minutus.
Fursonas:
Riley: Mountain lion, Sonic the Hedgehog
Amara: African wild dog, The Lion King / The Lion Guard
Masika: Eurasian otter, Redwall
Mara: Wolf, General
Luci/Moonstrike: Silver tabby Maine Coon mix, General Cat Fantasy Series

The Grey Coincidence

Oh I see. Well for the record I have never read The Bellmaker :P

Yes, yes, the harvest mice. Eeeexcept I'm pretty sure not every mouse in Redwall is a harvest mouse.

That's besides the point though- as far as the textual evidence is concerned Mister Nom The Heavens *can* be a wolf. I may be wrong on that account I may be right. The point of my guessing is less to find all those nicely placed bits of foreshadowing and more to engage with the story.

I'm still inclined to believe he is a wolf, but someone with supernatural powers has just suggested the possibility that someone else with supernatural powers could be something... supernatural? Food for though, but now I'm picturing him as Shadowchild. Those who have read Digger will know who I'm talking about and those who have not, should.

On a different note, can you make stories over on FFN with Kew-Kew? He is kinda funny.

Oh yes most definetly. In fact there shouuuuld be some more of him on the forum coming today. Meanwhile in Mossflower Kew-Kew was hunting eagles...

Posts! Posts! Posts! How excillerating!!!
I think opening with a flashback of sorts is a very clever way of wrapping up the story that started with your app. You knew I'd pesker you about what became of Arwydd, didn't you? Well, all the clamouring can end now, Arwydd the NPC is nice and safe in Nest... for now...

It's also a very neat way of tying Siobhan into Nest. She's been to Nest before! She knows the place! I think recruiting her shouldn't be too hard- simply a matter of saying 'the place where you left your friend is in danger, please bring your dagger'. Or maybe... there's the possibility that she changed in the past five seasons...

I think you wrote Bard, Skoven and Eula very well and am also a big fan of the Mekai cameo. Which... I think comes in handy. I mean... burns like that... pretty recognisable, don't you think? Siobhan might be the one to find her instead of it being the other way round, eh? Isn't that an interesting thought?

My favourite line from this post is probably the 'if she was honest with herself she missed killing the most' because it's quite... character-definitive isn't it?

Also yeah Siobhan's author I... think I know who you are :) Not gonna guess out loud, but I'll post the theory once annonymity is no longer an issue...

This is probably my favourite post so far... and I say that as someone who didn't vote for Antonia >.>

I think the standout here is Lucille and her cards. She seems to be (read is) guiding Antonia towards Mekai. I'm not sure what significance the coin bears yet (for when she remembers), but the coat (for when you need to be seen) and the card (for when you need to understand) I think I can safely guess.

Safely guessing here disproves my arrow theory but what will you... the coat is blue. Like the second arrow. Antonia is the second arrow and the coat is so that when Mekai strolls into town, looking for warriors, she can see the exact same colour of blue on a mouse and connect the puzzle pieces. The card, which proooobably has the same symbol Mekai carved into her forehead (sorry tattooed on her forehead) is to help Miss St Myria understand that her destiny lies with Nest.

I'm also a big fan of Lucille's 'then you will find peace' line... because... it's vague enough to go either way. If Antonia is voted out, she finds peace as she dies, if she lives she finds peace period. It's very clever foreshadowing that can go either way and I love it.

I love Lucille. She's a great NPC, but I fear she risked overshadowing Mekai had she stayed too long. Convenient, isn't it, that she gave Mekai the gifts and then waited around to die instead of giving Mekai the gifts and calling it a day...

This is gonna sound bad but... I really liked her death. The way it was written using only the sounds... it was really pretty. And I suppose Lucille served her purpose. Theory time, Brogan is advised at the end to go to Captain Novak- but someone's bound to find her dead body soon, right? What happens if Antonia finds Lucille's corpse? I don't think she's the type of person to buy into destiny. She is totally the type of person to track the killer down and stab them with extreme prejudice. Perhaps she... happens across Brogan as Novak is being recruited?

Favourite line: Your favourite colour is pink. You just tell everyone it's purple to avoid embarassment.

Food for thought, either way Siobhan, Antonia. Great job so far!

Ahheeeeeem, I see Lucan has posted...
I think Lucan is adorable. I love that he a) wakes up screaming for his mother and b) makes references to Redwall's long and storied history. I also really love that he can't string a bow.

Now this is where the cast begins to come together I see. I was worried at first about the wolverine comment because that would totally invalidate my argument as to what the Suneater is (and we don't want that) but again all we have is say so. So if it *was* the Suneater that stole the sword of Redwall it's likely just a case of mistaken identity. As to the massive creature he's hunting/hiding from now I have a feeling it's Old One. Even though it's really really unlikely for that wolverine to come strolling into the abbey and kill the badgermum...

And Priideep! I... was not expecting her. And yet I think the cameo was lovely, everything is ever so slowly coming together! I am a pretty big fan of the frog's descriptions here, smooth green skin, puffs up like a balloon, long legses- very nice visualisation there.

Gosh Lucan... you have no business being a warrior and I love it. The way he strolls into the wolverine's lair, sees all the bones 'he touched it', sees the skull and just screams I love it. His getaway was pretty impressive- sure he's not the greatest of warriors just yet but he's far from incompetent.

That said, he did only escape because his habit was old. I agree, he should invest in a breastplate and make himself look nice and warrior-ish.

It is Old One! Hurrah! My wolf theory lives on. Also it's Old One- that's three of the cast introduced in the same chapter. And I... love Old One? I think he and Lucan will go on to have a great partnership... maybe... I think I'd find it funny anyways.

Along comes Mekai, who's lost and she sees this kid acting macho and... they decide to find warriors together (after hiding from the big scary Old One anyways). How lovely! I love how it's all coming together. Wonderful, wonderful.

Few interesting facts about Lucan. He has many sisters. He has multiple older brothers. His dad was a warrior. Poor kid just wants to stand out from the rest of his siblings.

Favourite line: Hmmm... tough to say, lot's of standouts here but I think my favourite one is ""Stupid bow!" He kicked at it. "Who wants to be an archer anyway?" " Because that is exactly the kind of attitude a wannabee warrior of his age and talents would have. Also a big fan of Lucan always trying to deepen his voice.
So Elias has entered the story, all but forcing an innocent innkeep to give him a room. Now I understand he loves his wife and all- but is following the advice of a dead beast the... best way of going about things? Not that her advice is bad per say...

Elias sneaks out of the tavern in search of the legendary Singing Stone, something that will allow him to speak to his beloved once more. Doesn't work out so well, but he meets none other than Mekai, who knows someone who could, maybe help him speak to her again. I thiiink she's referring to Meliandre? Y'see there's the small problem of that old fox being with the Suneater now soooo...

In any case I think lucan and Elias will have excellent synergy. Elias is exactly the type of person Lucan would look up to, as evident from the medal pinning, and Elias could teach him a couple of things about life, as evident from the medal-giving.

Elias should be careful, however, to not fall into the mentor trap. Mentors always die. Tread carefuy there...

That said I feel like the character of Elias is like the 'peace' thing with Antonia. He really could go either way. I dont wanna see him kick the bucket or anything but his goal is to reunite with his wife... his wife who is dead. So even him dying would be a... win?

Here's another guess I have. Supposing they did manage to communicate with Elias's wife and found that she... moved on? Would that not be dramatic? And then Elias would also have to learn to move on. Food for thought.

Also I really wanna see Lucan's reaction to Elias' berserking...

Favourite lime: As usual this is difficult- I'll give it to the rat landlady's little speech about her husband telling her everything. Nice open relationship, good communication. I love it.

A mouse and a fox get drunk together discussing their accomplishments and... it's pretty much what anyone could expect. The girls hit it off and  will soon join forces to become an unstoppable force.

Better luck next time otter, don't worry, plenty of fish in the sea. (Get it coz he's an otter? And otters hunt fish? That analogy probably sounds wrong now actually...) Also just because the drinks come with little umbrellas on them doesn't mean ladies will be interested.

Also was this our first look at Unga? Elias isn't a big fan of Team Arson it seems, probably too old-fashioned and all that.

Favourite liiiine hmmm... erm... All of them?

It seems I was right about Elias being red! *smirks* of course I was.

However in light of Antonia being blue I feel the need to alter my guessworks. Stiiiill not sure on most of them but I have a good theory for one at least with semi-decent evidence.

The pink arrow is Novak. My evidence? The rose oil he uses- now yes roses can be all sorts of colours but generallly rose is a shade of pink (right?)- and Mister Brogan's favourite colour being pink. The same Mister Brogan who killed Antonia's friend and then, presumably, seeked employment with Captain Novak.

I still think Priideep is green- but Lucan *is* young and green I guess.

Fiyero could then be the ice arrow... nooot sure if that adds up but eh.

So far 1/10.
Honestly Siobhan, you deserve a cookie for your writing speed. 2.5 posts already! And the vixen has been recruited. Not too much happens here. Siobhan has a mighty headache from getting really, really drunk, and so she decides to go for a nice little stroll outside of Craylock. Fresh air is very beneficial.

She picks up a flower, lo and behold it is white and disproves my original arrow theory <.< >.> Aaaaanyways, that's missing the point. As I guessed before, recruiting Siobhan doesn't turn out to be too difficult and is simply a matter of telling her that her friend is in danger. It looks like she hasn't changed!

But of course, there is some sense of drama. Siobhan, you had.. five seasons... was saying hello... so hard? I mean... yeah you're a murderer and all that but you didn't seem all that bothered about it when you were giggling with Antonia. And you killed her abusive husband. D'yew... really think she'll hold that against you?

And they're going to the pits! Oh goodie! Likely to recruit Antonia but I have a feeling someone else of import may be there too. Hmmm... Fiyero? We have yet to hear from our duelist...

That said whenever someone mentions fighting pits I immediately think of Bihto so... Last Sister of Blackridge (this is such... a good... name gooosh Antonia's a superhero) Vs The Goose?

Giiiiiiiiiiiirls, gosh, you're not letting me write anything but reviews... I'm not complaining of course...
I GUESSED IT RIGHT! IT'S BIHTO EVERYONE! IT'S BIHTO!!! The first cut app to make this contest, unless I missed something.

Also I like his introduction 'you all know him but she doesn't', very clever.

Another impressive showing of combat-writing from the author of Antonia, who is a veeeery good fighter for someone with a hangover. I don't believe she's a practitioner of Drunken Fist but she should look into that.

I like that she doesn't beat Bihto outright (those of you who have seen anime weebs debating over power levels will know that character combat is serious business), but I put that down to her being hungover.

Mekai and Siobhan go to recruit her and lo and behold that card comes in handy now. Alas, if only Mekai had come sooner! She could have hired Antonia without the injuries.

Let's seeeeeeeeee then, so far 7/10 of the cast have been introduced by name (I think 8 but I'm not sure whether that shrew was Unga) and four have already signed up against the Suneater. Things are advancing very nicely indeed.

Keep up the good work!

The Grey Coincidence
Zandir is leaving home. It seems the burden of holding the Burden finally got to him. Morton the hedgehog, despite cunning ans stealth beyond compare, is swiftly detected and ordered not to follow. Probably for the best. Noone wants Morton to fight the Suneater.*

*I mean, at first I thought the Suneater might not manage to bite past the hedgehog's spines but then I figured he'd just use them like toothpicks when he's done. So no Morton good. Well played Zandir.

Zandir then lights a fire, and lo and behold Mekai and Lucan show up- this scene, for those not yet caught on, is set before their arrival in Craylock. Zandir is not unwelcoming and they share his fire.

While the Firesage snoozes he has a dream of his cousin... stealing the Burden from him? Not gonna lie... this Burden has a very 'My Precious' vibe around it which I love.

Zandir wakes up and is nice enough to leave the youngsters some sandmidges! I bet Lucan ate both of them...

It's at this point that I start to love Zandir. He's got such a lovely fish-out-of water vibe about him. The way he stares around the town all wide-eyed in wonder... and then this drunk otter bumps into him. Must be a lightweight if a small sip of his first tankard gets him reeking of alchohol. Anywho, there's a fight. Zandir tries to talk his way out of it, all polite-like, but sometimes you just gotta stab a guy.

But stabbing someone outside the pits is illegal so Zandir has to settle for a violent knock-out instead. I will say this for Zandir, he may not know what a gaol is, but he does know how to ask for directions.

So he's on his way to meet his cousin when he bumps into Mekai and company. I will add that people should avoid bumping into Zandir. He's not exactly short-tempered but he's also a bit of a grumpy beast and well... personal space is very important.

I realise now that I forgot to do favourite lines for some of my reviews, but one that stands out here is 'It seemed even more crowded than the entrance to this detestable town. So many beasts touched him, he almost didn't notice when a familiar small figure stumbled into him full tilt.' purely because of the use of italics.

Mekai is a clingy creature and is convinced he's the golden arrow. They go along to his cousin's ship and the author reveals that this cousin we've heard so much about is none other than Mister I-can't-go-clubbing-anymore. Novak.
Well, well, well. If it isn't Mister I-can't-go-clubbing anymore! I love that your post starts right where your application left off with Novak storming off to give his old captain a visit. I love the scene where he stares at the pheasant feathers and starts debating their sentience.

I also love the way you play with words! The pile under the blanket wasn't breathing you say? That must mean he's dead! Gasp! Is Novak going to be framed for murder? The murder of his old captain? Is *that* how he meets up with the others? From inside a prison cell? What does this mean for Zandiiiiii- oh I see. It's a pile of pillows under a blanket. I... like this captain.

And then we get a note, and a medalion and a big poofy coat. You know, I honestly wasn't sure what to expect from Novak but it wasn't cryptid messages let me tell you. And it's inside the cryptid messages that things begin to click and Novak's old captain is the rat who's sailing with the Suneater (Sailing With The Suneater, for those unaware, is the unaired Beach Episode of MOV). And wow, that opens up a lot of possibilities. Does Novak betray the gang? Well, I don't think he would have and I think it's the seal-pups that really help with this decision. He knows now that his old Captain was totes okay with killing babies for money, which is a no-no for Novak and thus, if push ever came to shove I'd imagine Novak wouldn't have tossed Mekai and company for slaughter.

Zandir shows up and I was... expecting them to be closer. But actually no, I like this. What kind of animal is close friends with their *cousins* anyways, right? Of course, they're still family even if they keep their secrets from one another. And there's still that incident at the skyward pools that's a big mysterious unspoken event of their past. Also Novak... how much money do you think you can charge Mekai? Nest... doesn't... do... money... And now I'm imagining Lucan helpfully providing a single tiny coin he picked up at some point.

I love Zandir's mannerisms in this post- the way he sniffs at Novak in search of the smell of alchohol and tosses one of the bottles over his shoulder. I can just picture his disgust!

Also, Sizzlesnout is my faaaaaaavourite NPC now! Based almost entirely on his appearance of course (which the big poofy coat only adds to). Sure, he's a jerk and he's only interested in sniffing money out of honest sailors, but he's also weirdly adorable. (It would have been absolutely hilarious if Novak *had* booted him off the pier after giving him the coat though)

And so Novak is the pink arrow! *Looks back nostalgically at my arrow theories from before and finds to my amazement that I guessed this right!* YEEEEEEEEEEEEEES, I guessed it right! Which means... I got... two out of ten of the arrows. <.< >.> Ah well, tis a number I can live with!

Danon the Daring, loud cat? Hmmm... what *is* it with Fiyero and all his many nicknames? Also Hand Boran? So that murderer is still alive eh? And following the advice of a dead seer. Veeery interesting.

Favourite line: "Clean up!?" He threw the balled letter. It made me chuckle. Not as much as this line though 'Novak remade the bed, realized what he'd done, and upturned the mattress before leaving with Elken's coat.' Of course I did not like that line as much as I liked this one '

'Sizzlesnout struggled at first - nearly drowning in the too-large garment - but then openly trilled as he realized the luxury he wore. "You can tell everyone you won it off him."

"I-I-I couldn't! I mustn't!" Sizzlesnout twirled in place, looking much like a dibbun in pre-play wardrobe. "But if you insist..."

"I must."

Novak considered planting his boot in the ferret's backside and kicking him over the dock's edge anyways. Instead, he left the ferret to his spinning, signaled down the dock to Zandir, and put some distance between himself and the coat.'

Because Sizzlesnout is adorable.
And so it ends. Not gonna lie, I was expecting it to be a lot harder to review every post :P

But wait it's not over yet! Because I still have gueeeeeeeeessworks to doooooooo!

So, I think whoever wrote Merill also wrote Chitterfang. I also think that they ended up in the contest but I'm not sure as who. If I had to guess (and you know I have to) I would say they were either Old One or, surprise, surprise, Novak.

I think that whoever wrote Kentigern wrote Elias because... Elias reads a bit like Kent? I dunno, could just be the way he was staring at the martens.

I will think more thinks when I can think of them.

The Sun-Eater is the Big Bad Wolf. He huffed and he puffed and he blew the house down. The reason this contest went dark is because he ate the sun.
