Okay, I'm genuinely curious: In a good number of Redwall fan works featuring good vermin (Mossflower Odyssey III, The Urthblood Cycle, others I can't remember the names of) Badger Lords (and sometimes Long Patrol hares) get treated as bloodthirsty warlords & vermin-hating racists. While they do have these traits in the books (*cough*Urthstripe*cough*), they do tend to have many good qualities to them too, like being good parents (Russano & Urthstripe), caring for their troops (Rawnblade & Stonepaw), and some even prefer peaceful lives to being warlords (Sunflash). So why is it fan works, they're made into bloodthirsty, pigheaded bigots? Don't get me wrong, they serve their purpose wonderfully, I have little love for any canon Badger Lord other than Sunflash, & I love the vermin and love the concept of good vermin (and bad woodlanders), but why do Badger Lords tend to get such vilification?

The Grey Coincidence

I imagine a badger is somewhat more imposing as a villain than a mouse so I would put this down to us authors wanting the biggest, baddest baddie badger for our vermin goodies to face and triumph.
