I would say so.  I have never heard of a contest where several posts were done "off topic" by focusing on action not related to the main characters.  I also would note that these interludes were done as a team effort and not as an inspiration from a character.

I believe Cidra was an ugly scarred female as well.

(I mean that in the best way possible, of course.)

Yep yep, she was uuuugly. All the purebred Atskiya were kind of...unsavory looking, with angular features and heavy brows. Kind of like cavemen kitties. And Cidra was all scarred up and had tatty ears to boot. She was a piece of work. It just made me love her all the more. <3

QuoteRegarding fan fictions:
I went to the site Redwallfanfictions.com and checked the list for 2009.  There are six entries for the year 2009.  Three of them were by Sharpfur - "The Red Days, "It Makes Me Happy I'm Not Them," and "Tales from the Imperium."  Geo Holmes did "Doctor Who and The Bloodied Vermin."  Tdcpresents offered "The Third Star."  None of these stories were completed.

I say.  :-[ Only "Red Days" is unfinished. "It Makes Me Happy I'm Not Them" is quite finished, and "Tales from the Imperium" is a collection of shorts, each one completed (though more may be posted this year, so I guess the thread itself it technically not finished...)

In RV3, Rufelle did two posts that did not feature any player characters at all:

http://z3.invisionfree.com/redventure/index.php?showtopic=610

RV5 still gets credit for them being co-posts, though. Rufelle's were done by herself. And somehow she won, so it rather proves, I think, that plot over characters is a good thing. Writers abandoning their petty character squabbles to expand the story's world more and all that, yeah.

Hmm. Can't think of anything else fantastic or noteworthy enough that happened last year wot hasn't been mentioned already... Now, in a coupla days you might see something interesting... Hehehehe.

Thanks for the clarification.  Think I was too focused on my personal accomplishment, finishing the Vermin Badger series.

Considering the awesomeness of that accomplishment, sah, I think you're more than forgiven. ^^

Are you referring to TED2, or is the maniacal giggling meant to foreshadow something a bit more unexpected?

Well, to be honest, I took the interlude idea from Wing's The Crimson Badger, and I like that they ended up a regular fixture. That, and all the co-writing, I think set us apart from other contests.

And thanks, Venny... I don't like that it took so much jumping to do "Best of My Love", but I was pleased with the final product. Not as pleased as I was with Revel's post (as you know). That scene was just... one of the finest pieces of writing on the ROC, ever. It was sublime.

I wouldn't call it maniacal... Well, no, I would. It fits. Maniacal. Yeah.

No, TED2 is just a YAY from me. My maniacalness is of another nature. One which will be revealed soon as I can get off my lazy tail and fix up one or two more things... It should be good. It's been a fair while since the ROC's seen something like it. And that's all I'm saying on the matter! Except...

Get out your jetpacks 'cos we're takin' this baby to the universe... AND BEYOND!

But I don't know! Couldst thou elaborate, dear minstrel?
And then he DIED!!!

QBV - Canon? I'll give ya canon, buckaroo!: Maybe it's just that I'm a yaoi fangirl, but the fact that an out-and-proud gay couple appeared in what was supposed to be a very canon contests amuses and delights me to no end.

RV4 - Is it? Could it be? I think it is! The END!: I'm really so happy that it only took a year of pestering to get Sir Badger to finish our lovely little contest. That tripped my trigger, not the least because I was then able to finally put up Cricket's epilogue. XD

RV5 - And the auld triangle went jingle, jangle: I really enjoyed the love triangle in this contest. All the sides were broken, and we knew it wasn't going anywhere, but it was entertaining to watch everybody spin their wheels for a bit. It's a just a shame that the suitors to lady fair 'died', one right after the other.

RV5 - What it says on the tin: Besides O:S, I think this is the only other contest to blatantly label (a) post(s) "The End". Granted, they weren't quite the end, but nice little climax, nonetheless. *nods*

RV5 - C-c-c-continuity, baby!: They were only tiny snippets, but I did notice a few tie-ins, not only to the Redwall books, but also to other survivor game contests. Makes me wonder about the chronological order these contests actually took place in. *strokes non-existent beard pensively*

RV5 - It boggles the mind: Maybe not a favorite moment, but something worth noting. My Fates there were a lot of NPC's (named and otherwise) in this contest. I'm tempted to say it has the most, but then I didn't follow contests like QBIV closely enough to be certain.

RV5 - Titillating Titles: Some of the coolest titles I've seen have been in this contest. Liza gets the award for overall favorite, but Rath wins my individual top choice with "Fatality".

And, not to burst the bubble of joy, but I think there was another preggo contestant. I wanna say she was an early vermin ROC:S contestant, but I'm not sure which...and I could be entirely wrong. Where's Roxie when you need her?

First and foremost for the past year, my highlight has been seeing through Midnight Mossflower from begining to end. All biases aside, I still think it's amongst the best stories of any survivor contests ever. And with biases, I say the same thing. Because I can.

Seriously, the cast was a delight to work with, especially considering I was having issues geetting the whole thing off the ground in the first place. Nothing but good times.

Also, this year marked my first official entry into the Survivor Contestant field, which was nice. Probably the most manic piece of marathon writing I have ever done, but I liked it. And I still like Reese as one of my deeper characters I've concieved ever.

Heh. I just wanted to take this odd opportunity to mention, to you, and dozens of other beasties who've made the mistake over the years...it's "Holms" not "Holmes"...though I sincerely adore Sherlock. Heh...been seven years and that user name remains the trickiest to spell.  :norf:

That being said...good 'gates, did I really do that this last year? I might have to actually write the rest of that eventually.

What about Endangered?  That was actually my favorite of the stories you've worked on, with one of my favorite characters in recent fanfiction.

Also, The Third Star actually WAS finished on FFN, but frankly the ending felt rushed and uninspired.  I liked all of Quinlan's other works, but really didn't care for the Third Star.
