Started working on this Friday but haven't gone back to it. I might finish it yet, but in case I don't, here's just my basic concept sketch of the prologue. I am  wondering if I should paint in some of the other characters, but maybe I need to wait to see what they write first.
That's Flax up close in the lower left-hand corner. I know Redwall's supposed to be kind of medieval, but there weren't really uniforms back then from what I can find. Mostly armor and V-necks and tights. I need a good Redwall-themed resource for how a Yew uniform might look. I'd like him to have a stiff collar if possible (he seems the type).

But are they canon?

Well, they're Redwall canon, as I believe that's the British cover art for the Long Patrol, but medieval canon? Perhaps not. But yes, you can go off those types of uniforms. I guess the only thing I specified in the prologue is that Flax is wearing a powder blue cloak, pinned with some sort of seal that marks him as Captain of the Guard. I envisioned the uniforms to be some sort of darker blue, perhaps navy blue. I guess because they're going to be going into the mountains with all the ice and snow and such, and I wanted something to reflect that. So yes. Yew Guards have navy blue uniforms and powder blue cloaks. Hooray!

And I will add those other smilies up right away! They're so great. Thanks for making them!

I second this notion. Give us some perty descriptions, as complicated as you'd like, and I shall produce some fine sketches for you folks to use as avatars, portraits, or whatever other needs you beasties have. And by that, pray I don't get lazy, because I desperately wish I had Terri Doxtrod's work ethic when it came to these >.<

To Aleisou: Those are ADORABLE! Thank you. And you too, Vizon. I really hope that you do finish that picture, because it looks like a pretty promising start. One of my favorite things about these contests is the kind of creativity they bring out in audiences as well as cast members. I really enjoy the kind of art that comes out of these forums. Keep it up!

Also, to anyone considering starting aside thread. Let me be absolutely, unambiguously clear: DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT!!! *Wardances*

No seriously. Start a thread, and don't look back. We've had some really good writing come out of these in the past -- think Birch, for example. And even if you'r enot in the contest, you can still have a lot of fun and get some really good stuff written in a context that doesn't involve a risk of your character dying. Anyways, keep it coming. We love seeing these kinds of things.

Physical description: Zevka is definitely on the muscular side for a pine marten jill, as the result of lots of exercise and lots of sparring with a wildcat. Her fur pattern is a little lighter than average for a pine marten, but certainly nothing too unusual. She tends to wear comfortable, practical, dark colored clothing that can stand some abuse, although she is normally much more particular about keeping it clean than a normal vermin. She's also fairly finicky about keeping her fur neat. Her ears are not pierced, and she very rarely wears jewelry out of a desire to not display wealth or invite robbery. She always wears a pair of tough, well-made but rather worn old boots that look distinctly less nice than her clothing -- the effect is probably comparable to men who wear sneakers with a suit -- and she is seldom without a rather beat-up looking knapsack that she's carried with her since she was a kit. Her main weapon is a heavy saber of good quality, with which she is quite proficient as a the result of constant practice. She's also pretty decent with the wavey-bladed dagger she carries in her belt; Mekad has a matching one. She's a good grappler/wrestler, but not much of a boxer. She is not very good with ranged weapons due to being a little bit nearsighted, a problem that often makes her look like she's squinting/and or craning her neck forward a bit.
