I don't think this will be a problem.

For one, this is not something that could have been foreseen in the future, so it's not a case of somebody knowing they were going to be busy and then applying anyway.

This writer discussed it with ALL the other remaining contestants and even volunteered to die, and the other writers and I decided to go with the alternative of putting the story on hold. The other writers are all willing to wait and will still have interest. They have also expressed interest in doing posts in the interim, so there will not be dead space for however long the writer is gone. Which might not even be a full month; that's just the worst case scenario.

As for a new contest going on in the meantime, I really think it would make more sense to wait. Somebody mentioned this already, but a contest starting soon is going to run through Thanksgiving and potentially also Christmas/New Years, so I sense a lot of people are going to be on vacation.

Well, if the story is delayed until pretty much December, I will definitely be too busy to follow the finish, so don't expect a vote from me. All I know is that if I were leaving for a month, I would bow out and take the death, and not make everyone bend over backwards to accommodate me. Doesn't matter if it was unexpected or not. And it's really just too bad that the already dwindling audience had no say in this whatsoever, but what's done is done, I guess. :\

And won't it be obvious who it is if everyone else keeps posting in the interim?

Read. No one "made" anyone do anything. The decision to put the contest on hiatus was an entirely unanimous one between all the remaining contestants. If you feel like your interest will not hold for that long, fine, but I would suggest rereading the story before you abandon the forums; there's quite a lot in there that's worth a second look, and it's long enough to keep you occupied for quite a while.

To be fair ... I feel like we are honoring the audience's decision in the vote. The writer volunteered to die, but the vote said otherwise. When posed the dilemma, we felt it would best to keep the vote as is and simply put a pause on things.

Like Balma, I don't think we should worry about more audience members dwindling. We lost most of them in the first few weeks, which is common occurrence in these things. To lose readership is just a natural way of things. Those that have stuck it out this far I have confidence will keep to the end.

Check back once a week and see if there's activity. If all goes well, we could have the story back up and running in only a few weeks.

Even a few weeks would be nice for me to catch up on art stuffs. I haven't even started Noonahootin's demise, and if I find there's extra time, there are some other scenes that might be fun to do. With class and other IRL stuff invading my free moments, I'd actually be glad for more time to paint and not rush.

Out of curiosity, what sorts of interim posts would we be seeing? I would at least like to know how Flax and Pyracantha ended up where they ended up at the end of Istvan's post. Maybe we can see what happens with Noonahootin's son, even though his writer is no longer writing for Noonahootin.
Perhaps all we audience need is a tantalizing teaser of what's to come in the mean time to keep us hooked.

I did read. I also said that the audience was not contacted before this decision was reached. And as it stands, I will be out of the country from December 20th for two weeks, and very busy leading up to that with preparations and ornament making for my Etsy store, since this is obviously the busiest time of year for that. Also, starting a new job very soon and it's going to be crazy diving in right at the start of the holiday season. So all I'm saying is that you probably will not be seeing a vote or reviews of any sort from me in the end. I probably won't even have time to read. :\

Okay! Our missing writer is now back and that means we can finally start the last week! Thanks so much for hanging around, guys... I really appreciate it.

We're going to do things a little differently for this last week. Usually at the end of the week, people vote for the winners and then the top three end the story. However, this story will conclude by the end of the week and then voting will open for the winners. If the writers want to include epilogues they may, but that's entirely up to them.

The final week of Mossflower Oddysey will end on the 20th, same time as usual. Here's to an awesome ending!

Balmafula

It's the 23rd and there's only one post up. About that...

Long story short, MO will need to be extended for one more week. Rest assured there is activity going on behind the scenes and hopefully posts will be going up sooner rather than later.

New deadline will the 30th, same time as usual.

Balmafula

It's not quite the 30th, but everybody has posted and so I think it's safe to open voting for the winner!

Voting will last until the 35th at the usual time. Vote! Vooooote!

I want to know what kind of calendar YOU'RE using.  :D

Balmafula

...the totally normal calendar. Right? RIGHT?!

*cough* I mean, er, the 5th. Yes. Right. Carry on.

Three hours left and there is a tie. Anybody who hasn't voted yet, please do so! Your opinion matters. You could be the one to determine the winner!
