Gashrock

By popular (?) demand. You know the drill. Or, if you don't know the drill, the drill is, you ask me questions that I either answer or blow off, and then PM guesses to me if you think you know my author's identity. Eventually I get tired and reveal said identity to all and sundry.  8) :gashrock:

Nyika

I'll start with the basics.

What is your name?

What is your quest?

What is your favorite color?

Matra Hammer

Nykia, you forgot the most important one...

Are you larger than a breadbox?

Gashrock

What is your name? <- That'un's defeatin' the purpose, innit.

What is your quest? <- The heck if I know, at this point.

What is your favorite color? <- Blue!

Are you larger than a breadbox? <- Aye.

TNT

If I demand it, it's obviously popular demand. **flips hair** ;)

Have you been in a contest before?

Since you went so soon (</3), what is one thing you were really hoping to do with Gashrock in the story that you never got to, if any?

Pretty much everyone here guessed that Gashrock would be a male character based on her name. Do you think Gashrock ever got teased about her name as a child, or do you think vermin would've been more chill about it?

And of course, cake or death?

Gashrock

Have you been in a contest before? <- Yes.

Since you went so soon (</3), what is one thing you were really hoping to do with Gashrock in the story that you never got to, if any? <- Didn't have any really fervent plans. I was sort of planning to have her interact more directly with Istvan, rather than just being intrigued by him from a distance.

Pretty much everyone here guessed that Gashrock would be a male character based on her name. Do you think Gashrock ever got teased about her name as a child, or do you think vermin would've been more chill about it? <- I think vermin would have taken it in stride as a generic-enough verminous name. She might have been "one of the guys" from an early age.

And of course, cake or death? <- Cake?

TNT

Ooh! Since it's too obvious asking which contest(s), what year(s) were they in? Unless you really don't mind saying which one(s). :P

Gashrock was definitely a here-and-now type of beast, but I know there was a lot of history behind her what with the subtle references to a seafaring life sprinkled like spice throughout your posts. Did you have any plans to develop that or share the tale? Could you share it with us meow? I have always been deeply curious of Gashrock's history.

How did you come up with her? Any inspiration for the name? What were your thoughts when you submitted her, and what did you think when you found her on the judge's pick?

Balmafula

Hey, Gashy. I just hope you know that I say "owt" all the time now because of you and most people have no idea what I'm doing. I hope you're happy!

... yes I know, and I'm sorry for snapping at you.

Oh.. questions. *ahem*

1. I was always curious about this, but why does Gashrock put down Nyika when she asks about the troupe? I always thought that was weird, considering how much Gashrock loves the theater. Also, she seems very aloof around Poko early on... does she not like kits, or was that just the general moodiness of the situation?

2. What was your favorite scene to write, and was there any scene you really wanted to write but didn't get a chance to?

3. What would Gashrock do when she got to Carrigul? Also, what would she do if she won a ticket to Disneyworld?

4. What is Gashrock's favorite flavor of ice cream. Would she share?

Gashrock

Tara: 2009.

Nyika: about as boring as answers as you could possibly imagine, sad to say. The searat stuff wasn't in the application, I was just like "I need a backstory for a rat? Rats come from the sea." "I need a name for a vermin? Squish two villainous-sounding words together."

I submitted two other characters, but she was the first one I came up with, because I liked the idea of doing something with the acting troupe first. And, of course, I was happy when I got in--at that point we still weren't sure how the numbers would play out, so I was still thinking "well with one entry in each category, my odds can't be that bad, in fact will everyone make it at least to the semifinals? After that we'll see..."

Balmafula: Seriously? Very nice. (By the way, Aleisou, if you're here, thanks again for the help with the Yorkshire stuff. I didn't plan very far ahead with that.)

1. By that point she's given up hope of ever seeing the "Dewhurst players," such as they were, together again. Dewhurst is, to the best of her knowledge, dead, Whitepaw and everyone else died in the crash, Risk is dead, and so the only remnants of the troupe that are left are her and Poko. Which leads to! It's more her personality and less the situation, at that point, but Gashrock thinks of Poko as "that little kit who keeps making messes her parents need to bail her out of, distracting us hardworking adults." That reputation might not be entirely fair, but without the parents in the picture to keep track of her, it's more of an "oh, great" feeling. To the extent that most kits are like that, then yes, Gashrock does have a problem with kits.

2. Most of the silly digressions. "World's worst" was fun. Also, Sliteye's Riddles and the Snow Queen summary, I guess. I didn't have any specific plans, although now that I see some of the stuff the other authors have come up for this coming week, Gashrock will be sorry she's missing it ;)

3. Carrigul--I guess it would depend on where the plot had moved by then. If there was any way that she could get a new start in some other troupe, she might well do so--further to above, she really does love theater, and wouldn't mind Nyika tagging along with her wherever she happened to land up. But the idea of leading her own is one she doesn't necessarily need.

Disney World? Harass cute little mice, who are just asking for trouble. Enjoy tame rides like the merry-go-round, until she finds out that horse statues are not slavebeasts and you're not able to make them go any faster. Resist her friends' calls to go on water rides, if she'd wanted to ride around and get tossed and turned on the water, well, you know.

4. Rocky Road, of course. And maybe with her friends. Or, depending on the practicalities of food rationing in a large group, how soon it would melt...

Gashrock

All right, well, a couple of you guessed it right away, so without further ado...

Hooray! I love your writing. You always did have the best opening lines. I'm gonna miss Gashy...
