How did you conceive Goragula?

Any missed opportunities?

Balmafula

That naaame it's so perfect and fun to say! How did you come up with it?

Goragula

Nyika:

1) I didn't come up with a concrete idea at first - I just knew I wanted to write something really dark and twisted, and I wanted a character who would both famous and mysterious. And I've always wanted to write a toad character! Because I have a soft spot for ugly, unloved animals. Haha. At first, I was going to make him a wildcat or a fox or something - one of the traditionally powerful and high bred vermin - but then I decided to go for something a bit more... earthy. I think it would have been a lot easier in retrospect if I had made him a mammal, since all the other characters seemed to just hate him on sight. But no regrets! Ugly characters are cool too.

2) Any missed opportunities ... gahhh, so many. There were so many scenes that I wanted to write, that I couldn't, just because it wasn't the right setting. Cold mountains. What was I thinking? Haha. If Goragula had survived until we got to Carrigul, I would love to have him get up to mischief and play against the other vermin. Also, I would have liked more opportunity to play with the whole magic/folklore thing. I came up with it only once I found out I was in the competition, and then I decided I liked it much more than the whole loanshark thing. I actually want to reuse the character in my own story and play up that side much more. I don't know if it's the 'done thing' to reuse survivor contest characters, but oh well. XD

Balmafula:

Haha. I was wondering if somebody would ask this ... Well, I was trying to come up with names, and I thought, "Carigula. That sounds cool." Then I thought, "Wait, why does that sound so familiar ... Hmm ... *rereads prologue* Oh. Carigula. Carrigul. Oops." So then I just changed around a few letters until nobody would notice, and hoped for the best. To this day, I'm still not sure how to really pronounce it.

Tara:

ANYTHING. Although the way you ask it like that makes me nervous, so I'll say "anything within the realms of decency." :p

Foxpen:

Why am I so charming? BECAUSE BEHIND EVERY FROG IS A HANDSOME PRINCE.
Although in this case, 'prince' may not be ... technically accurate.

Great, Istvan. Now I'll forever read Gorag's lines in Ozzy's voice.

Okay, so far I haven't had a single identity guess ... Or even any questions that might lead to an identity guess! I know a few of you know already, but I refuse to say it until at least somebody plays along. :p

In the meantime, enjoy this splendid photograph of Goragula in his modelling days (gotta get that cash saved up somehow, amirite?)

I like to think now that this picture was the thing that Poko found and that's why they all wanted to kill him. I mean, they were just jealous. Not everybody is born with this amount of natural beauty.

Goragula

It's like an episode of American's Next Toad Model ... *cringe*

Hey.  Guilty pleasures exist for a reason.

1. Have you written in any other contests?
2. Was Goragula your first choice to write, or did you have another character that you would have preferred to get in?
3. The world must know.  You.  Goragula.  A dysfunctional elevator.  What would happen if the two of you were trapped together?

Goragula

Sorry, I keep on forgetting to reply!

1. I have written in one other contest. But that's not the only contest a character of mine has been accepted into.

2. Goragula was my only application. I was going to write a back-up application, but I decided that I wanted to write Goragula so much that I'd probably just be upset if another character got in instead of him. My other application idea was a hedgehog for the Yew Guard, but she definitely wouldn't have made it into the Top 9 in retrospect. She was utterly boring. Haha.

3. Well, that all depends on whether Goragula is still a toad, or transformed into a human equivalent. If he was still a toad ... I would most likely assume that I was either dreaming or had been slipped some sort of illicit substance in my tea, because, well, being trapped in a lift with a human-sized toad is not an everyday situation. XD If he were a human version, I'd probably think, "Oh god, that man looks really rich and creepy, DO NOT MAKE EYE CONTACT."

Graggles would probably be an alright person to get stuck in a lift with, though. He'd be able to call people up to come sort it out. And possibly have the company responsible for building the lift destroyed. I'd probably just start crying because I'm a claustrophobic wimp.
