Well, she never stated implicitly that she died. She just kind of...ran into a burning house, so she probably died. But then she had an avatar that flashed "'Nora lives!" after that, so yes. I dunno there. :P

Hey, has anyone seen an off-leash kidney around here? Mine kind of got loose...

Yey, it's my Foxy Daddy! :D

I'll keep an eye out for that kidney. There's a certain stoaty here that might nom it, as he tends to nom everything, nomable or nom...I mean, not.

Haven't the faintest what you're referring to, Mrs. Starblade-Baron.

This babble just after a new contest is announced is always fun, trying to see which people pop up out of the woodwork with new names for you to figure out.

And then you can point and laugh at all the people who're actually entirely new and feel left out from the in-jokes. It's such a warm feeling, giggling at others' lonelyvibes!

Edit: Oh fates I just realised ... this is going to be SO desert-themed. XD

Well, I suppose they could if they wanted! They basically get free reign over the end of the story anyway. Didn't some winner kill their character at some point? I thought Torry Steggims did, but then, I haven't really read much of QBIII.

That is indeed how QB-3 ended.  The winner dies and his death has everyone declare peace in his honor.  Based on the rest of this thread, that makes Torry not only a first for QB, but for the ROC community.  First winner to die.

Hey everybody! Im kinda busy with college and everything right now, so I dont know how much time I will have for this. I will try my best to think of something original for the contest. Some character such that I have not done the like of before. Its good that we arent given the place or any details of the story. That means it will be a definate surprise!

Im new here but I have been a redwall fan for years.  I hope my story will be interesting!  And when do we post our writings?

Opal

Welcome! Juntar, if you'd like to enter, you need to apply before September 22nd. You can read more about application requirements if you click on "Apply" on the RV5 main site.

If you're selected to be one of the nine contestants, the story will most likely begin in late September or early October, and these kinds of contests tend to run for about 2 months-ish. Basically, if you get in you'll be expected to write at least a 1000+ word post every week until either eliminated or until the end of the competition.

Let me know if you've got any more questions! :)

I gots one!

Worrif say, you have one character that you think is really awesome and you can do a lot with, but you can't accurately get them across in the app. And then you have another character that appears to be better from the 600 words you can show of them, but in actuality is rather more damp and lifeless than the first, and you know you'll regret it if that one makes it in because there's not really all that much you can do with them as opposed to the first ...

Only it's the second one that gets in.

Would we, then, be allowed to sort of say, "Hey, since you chose ME, because I'm such a great writer obviously, then can I undo hours of your work in choosing this character over the other, 'cos, well, it'll still be me writing it, right, and I think this first character will do much better in the story than the other one because I really put a lot more thought into it and it's a much deeper and interesting and complex character than the one you chose because their app was prettier?"

... not that I'm not entirely certain both my apps will be pawsock-off-rockin' but, y'know, just wondering. XD

Well, judging by the fact that people that have won a contest in the past and then are voted out early in another says to me that it really isn't just writing talent that matters, but it really goes hand in hand with your character. I get what you're saying, but while you may love a character, your audience may not. So we have to love both the writing AND the character, I'm afraid. It just makes the most sense to me that way.

That happened with me in QB-2.  I worked on one character and it was a great kid mouse.  Took over a hundred hours of work getting it just right.  Then I saw the contest allowed two entries.  Since the deadline was less than eight hours away, I slapped together a second application and sent it in.  Guess which character got selected. ---- LOL.

And I'm still wondering to this day what my first character would have done if given a chance.  One day I'll get the urge to do his fan fiction.

Nice looking place, Tara! I can't wait until some serious writing starts up. Always a pleasure to read new contests.
