Passing the Torch

I don't know if anyone comes here anymore, but I guess this will come as a shock to no one that I'm ready to pass the torch. I don't feel connected to the ROC anymore, and certain personal events have soured my memories of both the ROC and of contests in particular. The same personal events have put me in a place of unexpected financial hardship. Simply put, I can't afford the domain anymore. I don't know if anyone is willing to step in, or at least help preserve this place as it is, but my life is just too busy and complicated these days for me to put any time into this place. It's not fair to everyone that still loves these contests, if you're even out there still.

The domain is expiring in February. The web host bill is due in May. I'm honestly not sure what the next step will be. I just thought I'd stop delaying the inevitable and let you all know where I stand. Thanks for everything.

I'd like to be your successor. I sent you a pm on Facebook.

Oh we're all around still. Just not posting. Mostly chatting on Skype. It's not as dead as it looks. No worries - we'll pitch in to keep it going. Sorry you had souring experiences - that is awful to hear.

You will be missed. I hope that perhaps in the future you'll drop in again, if any of the rest of us can help sweeten that sour patch. You've created something really wonderful here, and I am so very glad you did.

So sorry to see you go, Tara. I've heard good things about you from Airan, Vizon, and others and I wish I could have gotten to know you. Thank you for keeping this community alive for this long. It's allowed me to reconnect with my love of the ROC and given me some great new friends.

I hope life sends you smoother sailing in the future. Be well!

This explains why the site has been quiet though :3

I only joined recently (last year) but I had fun! So thanks for that!

Alas I have not much else to add but I hope things settle down and life flows where you want it too :D

Don't worry, things should liven up pretty soon. I've been very very busy with school these past few months, but I've been slowly pushing through the last two epilogues for MO3 and they should be up relatively soon. After that, I have a few announcements which should bring a little bit of discussion and life into the boards :)

Thank you all for your kind words. I will still be lurking in some capacity and helping as needed. I'm just happy there are still people around, and thankful to Airan for taking over. I would hate to see this place fall to dust and decay like so many old ROC sites, but I just didn't see it getting any better under my control.

Also, I feel like it's time to rebrand. I'm going to go by a character name that I never really used that much, but they were a lot like me, so...I'm Opal now. Tara Starblade is no more.

I'm so sorry to hear that things have been rough on your end, Opal. I've met wonderful people through this community, so know that your efforts in managing the site and keeping the community alive are greatly appreciated.

Thank you for all you've done.

Sorry to hear that, Tara.

If Skype would actually work for me instead of crashing every time I tried to open the group chat, maybe I'd have seen this sooner.

I'm sorry, too, Tara. I know there were difficult times in the past that we all heard/saw, but hopefully those old scars will heal...for my part, if there was anything I ever did or said that was upsetting, I apologize. I want to make peace and get along with as many RoC'ers as possible...there's too few of us these days, it seems. Friends?

I, for my part, have been busy. Four kids under four, and counting.  ;D BUT! Ready to remedy that and get back to some writin'!

Good to see you again, Frost. We have a couple of writing things happening in the coming months, including a new contest sometime in April or May, as well as few smaller things if you don't think you'd be able to swing a Survivor with that much on your plate. :)

Hey, Airan! I'll be glad to throw my hat in for whatever's upcoming, if you all will have me!
Hello again.

Quote3.) Haven't fully decided if I'll do this or not just because it's not totally necessary, but I'm considering migrating a couple of older contests to the forums- namely Midnight Mossflower 1 and 2. Maybe Redwall Revolutions as well- maybe I'll write an ending for that one while I'm at it...

By the by, if you'd like any additions to a possible ending to Redwall Revolutions, let me know; I think D?naidh is still rummaging through something around here...

Of course :) Once it's migrated over here, I'll see what we can come up with for a possible ending to that thing.

Yes, please join in. Most of us are family beasts or professionals up to our snouts in responsibility, so we understand the occasional poof. On the flip we celebrate the non-poofs and the once-in-a-while to frequent line drops. Any and all check ins are most welcome.
