Hey guys! I have an interactive story in the works but I don't have anywhere to post it. The basic idea is that instead of choosing character actions readers leave challenges for the heroes to over come. Readers leave comments detailing monsters, traps, puzzles, and loot the characters face in the next story.

The characters (all randomly generated) roll Attributes to over come each challenge. The story ends when the characters pass all the challenges...or die.

The setting is very whimsical steampunk with my own original species :)

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on where to post stories like this? Preferably an active writing community where my story can get the love (it probably doesn't) deserves.

Well, you could always try Tumblr? we've got a very active writing community over there, and I think the setup would really lend itself to the whole interactive setup, what with the ability for asks and submissions that would make it easy for people to give you their ideas. The only problem would be getting a really dedicated audience, which is hard anywhere, though there are a couple of Tumblrs I know that are dedicated to helping new writers get just that so it might actually be easier to get a following there than other sites.

I can't really say other than that, but I do really love the concept. I have a few questions? How would you assign attributes/skills/etc.? Sort of a D&D style, or would you come up with your own thing? For the monsters/traps/puzzles/etc. that the audience submits, would you let them supply the attributes/skills needed to overcome them or would you determine that? Tell me everything! I'm very intrigued.

Lol! Thank you for your interest! It's an idea inspired by someone who stole an idea from someone who copied an idea from someone who made a deal with interdimensional space aliens to receive. Or something like that.

In my method there are 5 stats. Health, body, focus, mind and wit. Each stat is a bonus to a d20 roll. Each challenge has a dice check of ten. So players need to roll 10+ to pass or defeat the challenge, if they failed they take -1 HP.

Stats are rolled randomly with a D8. 1=-3, 4-5=0, 8=+3 etc.

The characters stats encompass their training, physical and mental disposition and help give me an idea on their cosmetic details. For instance one of the chars I made has -2 health and -3 body so I picture her as s very portly person from easy tavern food xD. But her focus is +3 so she is a gunslinger as well.

Readers get to leave descriptions of monsters, traps etc and what they expect them to do :)

Hmm. Could the characters lose/gain attributes due to events or items?

This sounds like a fun idea, except the only problem I could see is them facing the first challenge and you roll really badly and all your characters die. xD That'd be pretty funny, though, to be honest.

That is the selling point yes c: Each char has 10hp + Health (so if they have poor health they have less HP)

Challenges stay around until one char finally passes it. Chars can also help out others if they roll poorly, taking a penalty to save them from a grizzly fate.

And yes :3 I'm still working out the details but they can gain traits, conditions, loot etc during and between stories. :)

Tumblr might work. I actually do have a Tumblr account. I never thought to use it though and just got it to read comics xD

This is a work in progress so nothing has been made yet c: but the basic rules can be found here
