Heh....  Hot is right.

I think Nanny Ogg and Greebo are my favorites.  Vlad though....  he was just... scrumptious.
May you live in interesting times.

The Jerk

Vlad is about the hawtest vampire EVAR.  I just wanted to eat him all up.  *joins the line of fangirls*

Well, well. The list has been edited to include three more.

Cyrus, Weylan Thomas, and Whiver Bean.

Cyrus and Weylan go in the "people names" category, although I should add a tad of non-plussedness for using "Thomas" as a last name. I know it's Biblical, and therefore old, but it seems so... peopleish.

Whiver Bean, however... I really would like to see how this one came about, actually.
Pre-emptively cheering on the following top nine names: Cyrus, Whiver Bean, Greenfang, Elin Sarkozy, Deadtail, Hazenval, Eliza Lacrimosa, Damask the Minstrel, and Alethia.

Cyrus. Cyrus. Cyrus.

Oh dear.

That was the name I was going to give to my character. Luckily, I changed it. -whew-

Balmafula

Cricket, I know you wondering about Eilat, and that is a city in Israel... but I don't recall what it means in Hebrew, or even if his/her author had any idea of that.

's pretty, though.

That name makes me think of a hare.
Maybe, I could be stupid.

ALSO

For the names that are "human/normal" (Simon, Sasha, Eliza), please keep in mind that one of the most important characters in the series is named Martin.  That's a pretty "normal" name, and still perfectly canon.  And I do believe there actually was a Simon in the books.

Dozystoat

There wos. He wos um. Wait. I mentioned he'd been in two books - but I'm thinking of Dandin's friend. Simon was the Abbot in Mariel of Redwall ... but not Bellmaker. Izzat right?

Whiver Bean I LIKE. Whyever "Bean" indeed? XD I hope it's a dibbun who's a brilliant tactician and has some major growth spurts throughout the story...

Yes, he was a blind mouse in Mariel of Redwall and The Bellmaker. I think he was the Abbot's friend, then became the Abbot.
I love quotes from "Anonymous/Unknown". They just conjure this image of a lonely old guy who makes up lots of catchy proverbs but doesn't want to bother with the whole "becoming famous so people will credit or at least listen to what you say" part. -Sparrowhawk

Jarrtail

Nah, Simon was the herbalist. Saxus became the Abbot.

Cricket Argyll

Cyrus: The Greek form of a Persian name meaning "far-sighted" and "young", or sometimes "lord". I'm  thinking a badger or some other powerful woodlander. Possibly and otter.

Weylan Thomas: Closest thing on BtN was Weylon, which is a varient of Wieland meaning "war land". I now want to listen to Weylon Jennings. Guessing a woodlander of some sort by the surname. Sounds too 'people-ish' (thank you for the word, Wolverine) for my tastes.

Whiver Bean: This sounds like a comical hare character. I like it. Silly. Like hares. And perilous? We'll see.

Um, um, um... When I sent my app in, it only showed the first few lines of it on the "submission page"! What should I do? Do you have the full application?  :(

Shorey: I realize that the Disney movie has nothing to do with the myth (Heck, they showed Hera has Herc's mother). However, Megara is in the Hercules myth -- at least the original Heracles myth. She is his first wife -- a princess that was 'given' to him as a reward -- who he killed, along with his two children in a drunken rage.

EDIT: Well, in some myths. In others, he killed them and she died of a "broken heart". 'S all muddled, of course.
BTW: Happy Cat does a lotz moar big tings n of teh otehr stuffs, n I rites dem daown, but I eated dem.  But I dun eated dees stuffs, so u kin bleeve Happy Cat is Ceiling Cat's kitty n haf teh lifes, k? ~ John 20:30-1, lolcatbible. (I blame Tara, srsly.)

Er, I believe his name was SimEon, actually...

Balmafula makes an excellent point with the whole Martin thing, actually. I think that certain people names are totally acceptable, as long as they're not so human as to be ridiculous. ("Eugene" is right out.) But giving them a people-ish last name as well, to me, kind of seems like a cop-out.
