I've, uh...got Gunnar. And a dog named Sail.
....
You all suck.

ANYWAY, since it's trendy and 'in' and I secretly want to be cool, I'll give it a shot and see if I can guess at any of these names...there's so many of them. Most of them, I just made crap up on the spot. HO-HO I see what you did there.

Addison Keskin I'm thinking a smart, vermin type with some wealth.
Alethia Warrior, just because it reminds me of Athena, and I'm going to guess she's a squirrel.
Baker Hm. A child vermin, perhaps, who is more good than evil? Or, perhaps, a Long Patrol hare who is merely called by their surname. I'm guessing a male, at least.
Barnes Whittleflit I see people guessing this fellow is a hare, but I might just guess a hedgehog carpenter (Barnes, the furniture store, and whittleflit, whittling away...)
Bellona Littlebrush I'm thinking a squirrel, from the last name, and a pretty wee girl squirrel at that. Might want to be a fierce warrior, but something is possibly holding her back.
Birch For this, I'm seeing a weasel, possibly due to Saint but then I could say otter from Sycamore.
Celosia Bird. Sparrow. Female. Possibly has heard of Redwall, but nobody in these competitions is actually from Redwall.
Coralclaw Sorrel Either a prima donna shrew or a pretty ottermaid.
Croup I'm going to guess a dibbun, nicknamed for a condition they suffer often, or a grungy rat.
Cyril Weasel, female.
Cyrus Weasel, male. OOOOOH, see what I did there? I hope they're twins. Really. I have no idea.
Damask the Minstrel
Deadtail There was a Dragtail under Ferahgo, or was it Cluny? Either way, he was a weaselly thing. I'm going to assume this fellow is a ferret.
Eilat I want to see an elk, but that's just silly. Possibly a calm fox, or an otter. Maybe even a
Elin Sarkozy I want to say shrew again. Female, or perhaps a young boy.
Eliza Lacrimosa I'm guessing another prima donna, a squirrel.
Ghervase Mouse. I want to say mousewife, but I don't know it it's actually feminine or not.
Gran Goretail I hope Gran is actually Granny. That would be so much fun. Deffnitely a vermin, or perhaps a badger mum that terrifies the dibbuns into giving her a fiendish nickname, which she encourages to keep them in line.
Grarrrg Gerrh Really bad cabbage. Or a tribal wildcat.
Greenfang Weasel, male, past his expiry date.
Gregory Shrew. Quiet, reserved, but nice enough.
Hazenval Rabbit...?
Hearth Mole or hedgehog. Male. Abbey dweller, or at least contributes to a community.
Keane Otter. Male. Might be slightly young.
Lykke Bird, female. Big. Maybe an eagle or some sort of falcon. I'd be excited to see a swan.
Megara "Meg" Devon Female woodlander.
Phelan I know two people by this name...hmm...Kind of out of shape, male, clever and funny, a bit dominant.
Rath the Whirlwind Badger or a vermin leader of some type.
Regglo Swiftshot Shrew. Or otter or squirrel. *sigh* Shrew, male, young adult.
Revel Hm, this is a toughy.
Rhys Otter maid.
Sasha Carrigan Another rabbit perhaps, or a hare? Definitely female, young adult. Possibly a shrew?
Simon Eeeeh. Very open door, this one. Mouse or squirrel.
Suellyn Fox. 'Sullen'. Male. Possibly more muscle than brain.
The Promise of Rain What is this, I don't even-!
Thetradt A rat or a pine marten. Male.
Venril Vermin, or just unfortunately named. Rat. Or it's a VENUS FLYTRAP I DUNNO
Weylan Thomas Secretly it's a Simpsons character. Craggly gatekeeper squirrel.
Whiver Bean Possibly a lone hare, who wants to strike it up with the Long Patrol. Or a very fat hedgehog.

So, I'm just curious how much you judge-like people are snickering at our attempts to guess at characters based on names. I'm sure a majority of us are dead wrong. Still fun to speculate, though.;P

Or how many contestants are coming in, seeng their names mocked, and crying in an angst-filled heap.

Croup = Isn't that something babies get that keeps them crying for far too many nights?

you're thinking of colic which thankfully my son never had. He did have croup though which is a wheezy cough when your air passages close up sort of like an asthma attack only it just happens when you're sick.

Wolverine

I'm going to attempt this as well. Of course, when we actually get results, I'll be interested to see how close I came...

Addison Keskin Well-to-do, rattish fellow.
Alethia Definitely female, probably a woodlander.
Baker I'm going to go way out on a limb. Primitive tribal vermin who is good at cooking?
Barnes Whittleflit One of the "minority woodlanders", either a hedgehog, mole, vole, or shrew.
Bellona Littlebrush Vixen with a tiny tail.
Birch Squirrel, I'm guessing?
Celosia Female mouse or squirrel, into pretty dresses.
Coralclaw Sorrel Sea otter, probably loves to eat any foolish corsairs who don't know what coral is.
Croup It's stupid, I know, but I really feel like saying "Vulture" for some reason.
Cyril Male mustelid. Probably hallucinates.
Cyrus Male minority woodlander, though the name screams vole more than anything.
Damask the Minstrel Either a ferret, otter, or squirrel.
Deadtail Mustelid, probably a rebellious hordebeast. Or else a squirrel with bad muscular control in their rear end.
Eilat Feels shrewish, for some reason.
Elin Sarkozy Fox? Might well be a marten, though...
Eliza Lacrimosa Definitely a dress-wearer, either mouse, squirrel, or wildcat.
Ghervase Sounds stern, so let's go with grumpy, old... err... weasel.
Gran Goretail If Gran is short for Granny, I'm gonna say Bloodwrath Badger in decline. If not, I'm going to say an otter who smacks the foe with his tail.
Grarrrg Gerrh Either this is a Monitor Lizard or this poor fellow's parents choked to death on a fishbone during the naming ceremony.
Greenfang Stoat, corsair type.
Gregory Majority woodlander (mouse, squirrel, or otter), probably a quiet, reserved type.
Hazenval Bird of some type, I think. Sounds like a sparrow to me.
Hearth Minority woodlander, probably very strong.
Keane Female woodlander, keen on things.
Lykke Small bird of some type, or a male marten who likes to kill stuff.
Megara "Meg" Devon Hangs out with Zeus Errrr, I mean, female stoat. Poisoner.
Phelan Sounds like a bloaty pale ferret to me...
Rath the Whirlwind Bird of prey. Probably a shrike.
Regglo Swiftshot Conducive to shrews or squirrels, methinks.
Revel Popsicle Otter or ferret.
Rhys Female badger.
Sasha Carrigan Wildcat, vixen, or marten.
Simon Definitely a woodlander.
Suellyn Quiet, reserved female goodbeast, possibly even a female good vermin.
The Promise of Rain Jerbilrat!
Thetradt Ferret, bird, or Monitor.
Venril Has to be a vermin. Sounds like a doctor of some kind.
Weylan Thomas Scottish accent, either a hare or squirrel.
Whiver Bean Dotty fellow who is either a hare or a harvest mouse.
Pre-emptively cheering on the following top nine names: Cyrus, Whiver Bean, Greenfang, Elin Sarkozy, Deadtail, Hazenval, Eliza Lacrimosa, Damask the Minstrel, and Alethia.

I'm entertained. Not so much at what you guys think (Except about Alethia - it's the ancient Greek word for truth, guys) as to imagining what the authors think about what you guys think.

There's one character in particular that I think all the speculation agrees about, and all the speculation is wrong. I sort of hope the author isn't reading this thread, or that he or she submitted a second character that they liked better anyhow. I imagine it would be pretty frustrating to realize after the fact that you gave your character the PERFECT name for a different character =D

This makes me extremely curious. O.o

42? Some of you young 'uns need to go back to school. As awesome a number as that is, we only got 39, and I know that because I've been counting them obsessively to make sure I didn't miss anyone out. :P

Perfect name for another character?

DUM DUM DUMMMMMMM! <----ooh, catch what I did there?

That happens, a lot more than I approve of. It's always a durr moment to see someone else's character and go GIMME THAT NAME or insist on shoving your own onto theirs.
Funny, though, in a frustratingly facepalming manner.

After all is done with, and the contestants are selected...we're never going to know who some of these characters were. How disheartening, considering the gun-ho attitude we seem to have acquired in guessing what's in a name!

You forgot the upcoming "failed application thread."  We can then see how many of our guesses came close and have a good laugh at ourselves and with the creator.  These are all strictly first impressions.
In life, the only thing that ever adds up is a column of numbers.

foxpen

Yes, but not everyone will post up their 'failed' application. There was a discussion, either in this thread or the 600?! one about that. So, we'll still see some, but we still won't see others.

Mmm. Perhaps we were hoping that RedVenture 5 could give us the Ultimate Question?
