(I've been so bad about being active at the VI lately. ;_;)

Going back to the site traffic, does anyone know how we managed to get 95 people online at the same time on September 4th? I'm guessing it must've been a massive spambot trawling session, seeing as we only have 46 members, and 10 of them are RV4 contestants. XD

I guess after Trogdorgate I'm the least-qualified person on the entire ROC to give commentary on names.

I hope you realise that by using that name I consider you contractually obliged to burninate at least one peasant, and preferably a village during the course of Redscape. How you do it is up to you.  :P

Tara, mon amie, you have probably been outrageously active compared to me.;P

On to discussing names! I searched for all of these (the reasonable ones, anyway) on Behind the Name first. Only a few turned up results.

Alethia: Closest thing on BtN was Aleida, which is a German variant of Adelaide, which means "noble and kind." I know this is unlikely considering they're not the most popular little creatures, but Alethia conjures the picture of a hedgehog maid in my head.

Bellona Littlebrush: Bellona is the Roman goddess of war and comes from the Latin bellare: to fight. Probably a squirrel from the surname, although the first makes me think of a badger...I think because of good ole Bella.

Celosia: Nothing came close to this on BtN. Sorry to whoever created this character, but if she (I'm assuming 'she' going off the Latin naming convention of girls ending in 'a') gets in, I'm going to be thinking of plants whenever I read about her. Name rolls off the tongue like 'cellulose' for me.XD

Coralclaw Sorrel: Like Cairn said, probably an otter, though the surname makes me question that. Sorrel can either be a coat color (which on an otter would make sense) or a bitter type of herb. Bitter makes me think evil. Possibly a vermin?

Damask the Minstrel: Nothing on BtN for 'Damask'. My mind read that name as Dalmasca at first and I had to do a double take because no one could be so geeky with regard to Final Fantasy to name his character after a city in the games. Anyway, once I got over the FF fangirling, I decided I like the name. Sounds properly Redwallian. I do wonder, though...it seems like all the bards we've had in these contests were male. Is bard-ing just not a profession the ladies like? Hrm...

Deadtail: Vermin of some sort. Hope he's as canon as his name. That would be fun! *Cricket cheers along the 'proper' vermin*

Eilat: Nothing on BtN. Not sure about this one. Short and to the point, though. Maybe a military beast?

Elin Sarkozy: Elin is the Scandinavian variant of Helen, which could mean "torch", "corposant", or "moon". I partnered with a girl in French class named Elin and for the longest time I thought her name was 'Ellen' because that's how our professor pronounced it. Then she told me it was EE-lin and I felt like a jerk. Anyway! This makes me think French thoughts all round because of the above. Not particularly fond of the surname as it looks like (but might not be!) a blatant reference to the French pres. In any case, I suppose Elin is a woodlander of some variety with a higher standing than most.

Eliza Lacrimosa: Eliza is the short form of Elizabeth, a Hebrew name that could mean "my God is an oath". Aww...I like the name Eliza. Makes me think of "My Fair Lady". I do hope this character is like that Liza. Lacrimosa is pretty, too, now that I know what it means, though it does make me worry this is going to be an angsty character. To be honest, at first her surname made me think of acrimonious and I thought we might have a lawyer on our paws.

Ghervase: Closest thing on BtN was Gervais, a French variant of Gervasius, which means "spear". I suspect this will be a vermin. I have no idea why, though.

Greenfang: Most likely a vermin...possibly a young'un? *hopeful*

Hazenval: Nothing on BtN. Makes me think of a mousemaid, though.

Hearth: Nothing on BtN. I'm thinking this is a woodlander, probably a family sort as 'hearth' has such strong connotations with regard to 'home'. Again I'm picturing a hedgepig. They're everywhere in my imagination today! Gah! ><

Lykke: I hope this is pronounced 'like'. Sounds rather comical. Maybe a vermin clown?

Megara "Meg" Devon: I just watched "Hercules" the other night, so points off for stealing a character name (and nickname). Can't say I'm overly fond of this name. Sorry, Megara's author.

Regglo Swiftshot: I'm guessing a squirrel. Last name sounds cannon-y squirrel, although the first makes me think of a hare.

Revel: Good, solid, simple. I like it and I'm guessing otter.

Sasha Carrigan: Sasha, a diminutive form of Alexander, which means "defending men". Now, Sasha itself can go either way for male or female. I wonder which this Sasha is. Carrigan doesn't do much for me. It sounds very real-world, although it does conjure images of some sort of Highlander creature.

Simon: Simon is a Hebrew name that means "he has heard". A mouse, if I have my guess.

Suellyn: I didn't even see the Sue-Ellen thing until somebody pointed it out. I don't particularly like this name, though. As I read it the first time, it sounded like 'sullen', which makes me worried about an angst-fest.

The Promise of Rain: Utter silliness. There better be a good explanation if this charrie gets in. Sorry, The Promise of Rain's author.

Thetradt: Closest thing on BtN was Tjaard, a Dutch name that means "people watcher". I have no idea how to pronounce this name. I'll be frank. I don't like that. I'm sure I've been guilty of this before at some point, but if it's that difficult to figure out how a character's name is pronounced, then pick a different name. It makes it less of a headache for everybody.

Venril: Makes me think vermin right off the bat because it looks like "veneral", which isn't at all pleasant.XD

There we have it! All the names so far.

I've always been a little defensive of english wordnames ever since we shredded 'Blaze of the Sun' in... I think it was RV3 judging. And because Kiakaa was also called 'The Weeping Scar of the Wind'. And, well, it kind of all goes back to Illiam 'Bear' Aulkner, who seemed to get witch-hunted straight out of QBII purely because of the nickname.

So I reserve judgement when it comes to names. :P Because ultimately, a good writer could pull off having a character called Zebedeblox The Fourth. So, yeah. My tuppence ha'penn'orth. :D

Though I really do like Hearth and Thetradt as names. <3

I feel I should point out that Megara -is- a pre-Disney name. Since, you know, Hercules was a myth before a movie.  ^.^

Deal. If I win first place, I will totally burninate a peasant. Heck, I'll burninate the whole countryside!

Oh, and now I consider you contractually obligated to make sure I win.   ;D

Lacrimosa- @Kenner: -high fives- that's exactly what I was thinking! XD Lacci was so annoying in that book.

Wow, I totally just re-read Jugulum, too, and I never noticed that name. Wolverine's getting amnesia again...

(And, Vlad was like fifty times more annoying than Lacci. At least Lacci had the interesting character dynamic of wanting to kill every single thing she came across. Vlad was just a whiny angsty-pants with a creepy obsession for Agnes...)
Pre-emptively cheering on the following top nine names: Cyrus, Whiver Bean, Greenfang, Elin Sarkozy, Deadtail, Hazenval, Eliza Lacrimosa, Damask the Minstrel, and Alethia.

Oho, THAT's why I was thinking Death Eater. Makes sense now. Darned subconscious memories!

Ahh, I don't mean to be rude, but, um, the Disney Hercules bears little to no resemblance to the myth of the same name. Megara is not part of the Hercules myth.

No...Vlad in Carpe was AMAZING.   FANGIRL love.

Y'know, in these competitions, the majority of creepers have both first and surnames.

I'm noticing a lot of lonely singles out there tonight.

@ Cricket: Haha, Dalmasca. y'know, my friend made me play through that game (I think it was FF XII) and it was pretty interesting, but the names were a bit hard to keep track of. :P I did like the idea of... what was it called... the "skills board", or something? That was neat.

@ Kenner: I agree. He was pretty.. hot I mean interesting. >> I thought how the attraction between him and Agnes was totally focused on her personality instead of her looks was well done. Now, if Twilight could have that.. XD

@ Foxpen: What do you mean, creepers? :P

-looks at clock- Oh my. Must type up application. ^^;

IPlanToBiteYou

Not counting the Minstrel, there's only nine with two names. O.o This could be interesting.

Gah. I find the wizards more entertaining. OH! And Casanunda! When he beat the Archchancellor at Cripple Mr. Onion I just about laughed until I cried...
